I took 50mg of Vyvanse earlier this week to help me get work done. One hour later I feel on top of the world, so much motivation and confidence for things completely unrelated to my work. I've always struggled with social confidence (especially interacting with girls) and this helped, a lot. Anyone ever get perscribed an ADHD medicationn for disorders other than ADD/ADHD?

I've experienced that "top of the world" feeling on occasion with Vyvanse, but definitely not every time. I tend to find it annoying now, as it makes me think my problems are not problems at all and I can surmount anything, but then it wears off and I am still with the same problems. So if I get that "on top of the world" feeling I know now to take it with a grain of salt.

I think some people are prescribed ADHD stimulants for treatment-resistant depression.

ADHD meds are absolutely horrid for anyone with any anxiety disorders to use.

They cause immense amounts of stimluation, and with people who don't handle that well, it translates into anxiety. The medications most effective for anxiety are ones that slow down the CNS and relax the mind and heart, hence benzodiazepines and antipsychotics (sedative effects of antipsychotics are why they are used).

I have several anxiety issues and I take Ritalin as needed. I'm on a very small dosage but what I take mostly have positive effects on anxiety.

Thanks for the responses. I have been prescribed zoloft, abilify, celexa, and guanfacine (for tics), and have since stopped. I didn't find that the stimulant effects made me more anxious however. I am an avid caffeine head and really like the effects of this on my anxiety.

Since February I've been taking tenex for twitching in my shoulders that's stress related. It seems to have helped. Except since it's generally prescribed to children, many pdocs and therapists have no idea about it who work with adults!
