So, I take generic Prozac and generic Risperdal for psychiatric problems. I know when you check them in those drug interaction checkers it says not to take them together, but the same pdoc prescribed both to me and another pdoc agreed with the prescribing, so it must not be as bad as the online things say. I have been on Risperal since Oct. 2008 and Prozac since Jan. 2009, so it's been a while.
I remember asking pdoc after I looked them up months after I had been on them and him saying at the doses I was on it was safe to take them together. I remember not believing him and calling several different pharmacies to ask about it and getting about 1/3 saying it was unsafe and 2/3 saying at the doses I was on it was okay. So, I assumed it was okay and stopped worrying about it. About 6 months ago, my athsma came back (I had it as a kid, but then it went away for a long time), so my family dr. put me on DuoNeb (insurance payed for gerneric of course...same difference to me). I asked him before he prescribed it if it would interact with any of my other meds, he said it wouldn't and I believed him. I used it for a week until I quit wheezing as prescribed. A few months later I was wheezing again, so I was put on the nebulizer again for a week. No problems. Now last night I began wheezing again, my family dr. is closed until after Christmas, so I can't get in to ask this of him. I do have some of the generic DuoNeb solution vials left from last time as he said use it till I quit wheezing but gave me enough for 30 days in case I needed more later and didn't want to come in. I was thinking about using it tonight, but now am scared to. I don't know why I did, but I was curious about it's interactions with my psych meds, so I checked and it says both of my psych meds interact with the DuoNeb. But when I ask the dr. when it was prescribed he said there was no reactions known. Is he just unaware of the interactions, or do those online sites make it look worse than it is? I don't want to have a heart attack or stroke from using all of them at the same time. It says something about QT intervals on the interaction stuff. Should I worry or not? |

I don't know anything about the meds in question, BUT I know the online drug interaction checkers are very sensitive. More than once someone in my family was on a combo that was supposedly dangerous, but when we asked the MD and the pharmacist they said it would only be possible at extremely high doses of the meds in question.
This is what we do in my family: ask doc specifically when it is rx'd, then check interaction checker, if it raises a concern, ask pharmacist, and follow up with doc if still concerned. Also, it is best to fill all rx at the same pharmacy because then they can flag your order if you are rx'd 2 interacting meds at the same time. This happened to me once (but I had discontinued the 1st med already.) Best, EJ |

I know some of the online checkers say I shouldn't take the 2 psych meds I am on together, but 2 differnt pdocs have said it is okay at the doses I am on, so maybe the same goes for this. I trust my family doctor, so I'm just looking for reassurance from my pdoc that there will be no negative reactions. |

Usually the drug interaction checkers will list anything even remotely possible, even if it's a one in a million reaction.
I have been on various combos of meds, psych and non-psych that the interactions checkers said i shouldn't be. As long as your doctor says its ok, it probably is. Check with a pharmacist though |

I have used Duoneb for a long time... It's great for asthma.
If anyone looks up tylenol or asprin online and look at the list of "possible" side effects and interactions, hell noone would take any medications. Psych doctors know what meds can be mixed with others.. Call Pdoc to verify medications. Good Luck

pdoc just responded to email, said while there are "possible" interactions it is nothing I should worry about and it was safe to use the DuoNeb while on my psych meds.
Reassurance is always good. |

Even though pdoc said it was ok/safe I was still worried, so I asked a Q on Health Tap and got reassurance that it is okay. Glad I discovered health tap this morning.
