I posted something similar in the abuse forum but I was wondering if anyone has had any experience or knows of anything about the use of medical marijuana for stress, anxiety and/or pain. I've never used it before in any way and wonder how prescribers are going to be able to use it. Is it just for cancer patients or other pain issues as well. Thanks for comments.

I use it for sleep and it works like magic with zero side effects. I use it daily. I highly recommend it.

When I was getting the recommendation (the official name is not a "prescription", but a "recommendation") for medicinal cannabis, I was looking at migraine relief and insomnia relief. The doctor said that I would most likely find relief from insomnia and might find relief from migraines. The doctor was right in that it worked better for insomnia. It did not work for migraines.

I think neither this forum nor the abuse forum is the right venue. Is there a forum on Other treatments? That would be the right venue for your question.
Thanks for this!

Crazy that I would ask that question and very surprised at your answer. I have sleep problems that nothing works. I'm drinking to help me zone out a bit but that isn't a great solution for sure but I've been so sleep deprived that it's getting dangerous. I never thought of what you use it for. I wonder if I would get any support for its' use.
Thanks.

Is medicinal cannabis legal in your state? I would not want to recommend anything illegal because of the risks involved.

And yes, as a sleep medicine, it is even better than Zyprexa.

If you drink, you need to dose your drinking properly - 1 drink a day if you are a woman, 2-3 drinks a day if you are a man, no more.
Thanks for this!

Oh great, right around the corner. Eating marijuana is preferable to smoking - smoking is harmful to the lungs.

Marijuana lowers blood pressure. For many people, it is a very welcome side effect, but if you have naturally low blood pressure, like me, you will want to monitor it to make sure it does not fall too low.

I find marijuana to be helpful with relieving my depression and anxiety symptoms and reducing my stress levels. I know studies have shown it can be used for various mental disorders, though its much easier to get medical marijuana for physical issues.

My state made it legal in general for adults 21 and over though. I'd personally like medical marijuana though because then I would have documentation that it helps me...I mean the only issue I see with it is the legal issues and the federal governments stubbornness on changing their policy towards it. But yeah any pharmacutical psych meds I've tried don't really help or they make things worse.
Thanks for this!

Marijuana is no gourmet food, but I am able to quickly chew a piece of cannabis chocolate without feeling disgusted.

I'm using it for sleep at the moment, it's a wonderful aid. But it does have it's drawbacks, with memory recall, of course that is also one of it's benefits.

I have used it in the past for severe back pain. I told the md and he said it was better than prescription drugs. It made me hyper, not sleepy.

I haven't used in over 10 years. I do re-call being hospitalized for it causing mania, I'm bipolar. To be honest, I don't know if I was taking my meds faithfully back then.

My son's been warned to avoid due to schizophrenia.

Not knowing anything about it I just assumed you would smoke it. Never tried before ever so this surprised me about the chocolate. Are there other ways people can intake and get benefits? Very curious.

Little Me, I got so used to the taste of chocolate that I now even like it. It just took a while to get used to it.

The doctor who prescribed marijuana recommended that I eat, not smoke.

But there are also odorless, tasteless THC capsules in case you do not like the taste. They look like vitamin E.

I have a medical marijuana recommendation and I vaporize it. It heats it to a point where the thc and cannaboids are released but without causing combustion which is where all the yucky stuff comes from, tar, smoke etc.
I've been using it for about 6 months and I'm not sure if the marijuana actually helps or just makes my symptoms more tolerable. It is so much preferable to the medication I've tried though. I have experience with multiple SSRI's, and benzos. At the time I switched off my meds I was taking abilify, lamictal, trazodone, gabapentin, benzos and prozac. I felt flat, numb. Like a zombie with no emotions. It was unbearable, I knew I'd rather be "ill" than "well" if that's what healthy felt like. Just my experience and I'm not sure how accurate it may be. I can say that when I feel like self-injuring or suicidal the marijuana can help me get past the most intense urges.
