Does anyone know how to control weight gain caused by zyprexa. Zyprexa has helped my symptoms, but I'm starting to gain weight does anyone know if this can be helped?

Sorry, but I have no suggestions. I gained 30lbs within 2 months on Zyprexa, even after switching to Zydis which slowed the weight gain...

Needless to say, I got off that stuff real quick, even though it was the most effective med I had tried!

I know that Seroquel is a very similar medication to Zyprexa, both in function and side effects, and for me, it has been almost as effective as Zyprexa, but the only weight I've gained on it has nothing to do with the medication itself, it has to do with with me eating more and exercising less. (When I went back to college at the end of August after spending the summer as a camp counselor, a job in which I only had a chance to eat 3-4x a day max and walked up to 6 miles a day to having a fully stocked fridge that I could access 24/7, and walking less than a mile a day, I gained about 5lbs, but that's literally all the weight I've gained while on Seroquel).

Maybe give that a try if Zyprexa is causing too much weight gain?

All antipsychotics are known to cause weight gain, but I'm going to agree with SingDanceRunLife on the fact that Seroquel (I'd recommend the XR version) causes the least amount of weight gain.

Also, what dose of Zyprexa are you on?

I'm on 5mg a day currently.

Then I really wouldn't worry about weight gain. Even the 10mg I'm on is a low dose, IMO.

Even on 5mg I gained about 30lbs in 2 months. I don't think that dose matters so much with Zyprexa.

I'm only on 3 mg, and I've gained 26 lbs in 5 months. Before Zyprexa, I had an excellent metabolism. I ate whatever I wanted and never exercised, and didn't gain weight. So even a very low dose of zyprexa can cause weight gain, unfortunately.
