I started abilify about 5 days ago at 2 mg. My doctor told me to take it in the morning because it can cause insomnia at night. Well it made me really sedated during the daytime so the next day I took it at night and had insomnia. So for the past couple days I have been trying to figure out a time to take it so that I don't get groggy during the day and am able to sleep at night. I have to stay alert until midnight for my job so it is hard finding the right time. I asked the pharmacist today and she said I could be having the side effects of sedation and insomnia. The thing is I feel great mentally and it is really helping my depression. I am going to call my doc tommorrow but I was wanting to see if anyone else had experience with this. Do you think it is possible to take 1 mg twice a day and that might help? Thanks

I had the exact same issue. I started on 2mg, then 4mg, then 15mg.
I was told to take it every night since antipsychotics are known to have sedative effects, however Abilify commonly causes insomnia. I realized that it
was hurting my sleep more than helping so I stopped.

Long story short, I had the exact same reaction. You should ask about
getting switched to Seroquel or Zyprexa.
