Hello,

Ive been prescribed Sertraline, commonly refered to as Zoloft for depression and anxiety.

I started on them 4 days ago but on day 1 I had a massive manic episode and all my anxiety and depression overwhelmed me when I came down from the mania and I was very suicidal. It was a long night. I havent taken another since, but I still feel so depressed and anxious so I am considering trying again. I cant see my doctor again for another two days. What does anyone think? Anyone had any similar problems on sertraline?
Hugs from:

I haven't had that experience, but it was a long time ago when I was on Zoloft but I have had bad experience with other meds...is there a nurse line you can call for advice? Can you be put on a cancellation list for your doctor? (I know you have probably already considered these options, but thought I would ask anyway...)

Good luck...I am sorry I don't have anything helpful to say....

Sertraline caused my bipolar disorder to escalate 10-fold. Higher high, and lower lows all the time. No in between. Mixed with a heavy dose of a mood stabilizer, it's effective. Without, it can easily prove disastrous.

I take zoloft/ sertiline. It works great. It did cause panic attacks and insomnia the first week or so. But after that is was great. The doctor gave me the libirty to up it by 25 mgs as I saw fit as long as I called him and let him know. I didn't have insurance and couldn't continue to have it upped by going to the Dr and getting there permission. I knew it was time for more when the panic attacks returned. Which was every 8 or 9 months.

Different meds affect different people different ways. Good luck w/ what ever you choose.

Pickleweeze (love t hat name) I started out at 25 mg. I had to cut in on half for the first week. Now I take 200 mg. I haven't upped it in a long time.

I started taking sertraline in December but in combination with my selegiline my hypertension worsened so I had to stop taking it.

SSRIs and MAOIs don't mix well quite often.

Yes. I had the same reaction.
(The Doc started me at a dose of 100mg.)

But after cutting the tablets into 4 pieces and
only taking one quarter of a dose, they actually
worked quite well. I am up to one half of a pill now.

I think that sounds wize. 100 was a whole lot to start with. Not a bad amount to end with though. Good luck in the future w/ this. Keep us informed.

Thanks so much for all the responses! Theyre really helpful.

Ive been started on 50mg, I cant see my doctor for 2 weeks, not two days by the way.

Ive restarted myself on it and didnt have another manic episode. Seem better this time besides a bit of insomnia.

Anyone drink when on sertraline? Hows that?

I'm on 50mg. I do drink on my psych meds. I feel very out of it in the mornings, and I'm not sure if it's the Zoloft or the Seroquel

Hi, this is the first day I take Zoloft (50mg). I feel extreme hunger, but what's worse I have also weakness and tremor in mybody when I'm that hungry. I felt much better after the lunch, but currently it's dinner time and I'm getting hungry and very shaky again. Is it okay for the first days and will disappear in the future? Or should I consult my doctor to reduce the med? I'm used to work out and don't really want to lose my constitution due to frequent eating.

Thanks for the advise.

I have exactly the same side effects. I've been on this med for 2 months, and it's only got slightly better

How it feels after two months besides the side effect, are you getting better in any case?

I just started Zoloft 25 mg. It's a very low dose as I am very sensitive to meds. I started sleeping more instantly and my PTSD lessened though did not go away. Sexual side-effects are now starting to kick in after about 10 days on the med. I see the prescribing T next week and I think he will up the dosage. I doubt that I would want to increase it to more than 50 mg.

Can anyone tell me if one develops a resistance to this med over time requiring increased dosage to keep its effects from minimizing?

unhappyguy I take 200 mg of zoloft. I started at 25 but had to break it in half. You can develop a resistance to it but at what speed is the question. I have been taking it for 5 years. I have upped mine at the rate of 10 mg's every 3 mo or so. Until I got to the higher dosages. I've been at 200 almost a year. It does totally KILL your sex drive and sexual abilities. The dr added wellbutrin to mine but it kept me awake for days (which I understand is a strange affect, definiately not w/in the norm) But that's me. Just not w/in the norm. So I quit taking it. My sex life will just have to suffer for the sake of my mental health.

My appetite and weight have increased somewhat.
I still have the odd jerk in my legs, hands or arms.
