I went to the doctor and she recommended Prozac. I've tried SSRI's (zoloft) before in my teens and it didn't seem to help. I also tried effexor, but that medication made it hard to think and focus. I hope it works. I get nervous taking medication. I worry about how they are going to affect me. I hope this works out.

It is 20 mg. I took it this morning and didn't notice any side affects. Slight head ache maybe, but not really noticeable.

I was on zoloft for 14 years, but it stopped working at 150mg a day. I have borderline personality disorder and my pdoc wasn't sure that meds would help with the depression. Some think the depression is chronic from the bpd, but I don't believe that since I was didn't have a depressive episode for for the 14.

I started on 20mg of prozac just over 2 months ago and it is great! I thought I would never find my way out of the dark hole and gloom that was over me.

Why are YOU taking drugs when your wife is the problem?? Okay thats a little harsh but you see what I'm saying here. Did you tell your Dr about her and what you said in the other post? I really don't see you as having a problem except that you're letting all this happen. To YOU. Why couldn't I find a husband like you??!! No, I was an idiot and worked and gave THEM money. I was stupid!! Oh well...

My depression started before I met my wife. Since meeting her my life has improved a great deal. Our marriage isn't perfect but she loves me, and support me the best she can. I know she has a large school loan and isn't work, but it doesn't weigh heavily on me. I am concearned about it, but it is not insurmountable.

I think the stress adds to things, but it is not the root cause. For the last five years I bottled up all of these emotions and focused on pushing thru school. Ignoring my own mental health and her needs. She stood by me through that and im not sure most people would have. I'm sure she felt like she was second on my prioties. She also doesnt make me feel guilty about being depressed. She urges me to get help and offer support. It can't be easy to be with someone like me. I would feel really bad about myself if my spouse said they didnt want to live sometimes. She stands strong and tells me to push foward and get help.

Sorry, I was out of line. I mean it was inappropriate to say such things and I apologize.

The main issue I have heard about Prozac is tummy-related...so just keep that in mind. You might be fine, so not trying to scare you. I know I have a few friends who just get a slightly nauseated feeling...I felt like I had food poisoning, so it was a big no-no for me.
My cat takes it just fine.

The only side effects so far have been sexual. Decreased libido and it takes longer to achieve orgasm. The couple times I tried right after the meds, I was unable to finish. My doctor told me to skip the meds on the days I want to have sex. I tried that and I was able to finish. Maybe my body will adjust. I'll give it a month.
