Hello! I just got taken of zoloft yesterday and put on wellbutrin xl for my depression because zoloft gave me intense suicidal thoughts. I took my Wellbutrin for the first time yesterday at about 7pm because I work overnights. Now it's 7:30am and I am having racing panicked thoughts. My mind just won't stop. I feel like there is so much I have to do and now I can't sleep. I feel all these pressures. Is this normal when coming of Zoloft? Is this normal for starting Wellbutrin? How can I calm myself down before I have a massive freakout? Has anyone else tried Wellbutrin XL and what was your experience? Any help at all would be MUCH appreciated! Thanks!

Hi ADHDSlave, until my pdoc adjusted the dosages and type of Wellbutrin 150 mg SR X 2 daily, I did have similar side effects. It was an anxiety type of sensation that sounds like what you described. Your pdoc may have to make adjustments with the dosage or switch to SR form. They are supposed to be the same, but everyone's body reacts to meds differently.

I have not been on Zoloft so I can't tell how much switching from Zoloft is involved with the side effects you described.

To diminish the side effects, one pdoc got me prescription for Ativan 0.5 mg for me, It just took the edge off.

I found that any ciggies and caffeinated coffee made the anxiety side effects more intense.

Wellbutrin is a stimulant, and will cause an increase in severity of any previous anxiety or panic disorders.

Zoloft WD's won't feel like racing thoughts, but more of a general cloudiness and feeling of distance from reality.
