Is there a med that works well or that has helped you with agitation/irritability and even aggression besides benzodiazapines? Which work fairly well for it in my opinion, but they specifically target anxiety..

Antipsychotics help with irritability, agitation, and aggression. I suffer from all three and an antipsychotic has helped manage those symptoms as well as other symptoms. Benzos are specifically for anxiety; a whole other symptom.

I had an experience with agitated depression. A low dose of clonazepam and an anti-depressant helped. FWIW I didn't have the irritability or aggression.

A lot of it depends on your diagnosis and the other meds you are on. Care to share?

I know for me hypomania results in agitation and irritability, so controlling the hypomania with a mood stabilizer takes care of the issue.

Best,
EJ

But isn't this med really hard to tolerate? I also read its very old... Interesting though you brought it up..

Zoloft is one medication that targets all the areas you just mentioned, including OCD.

thorazine isnt hard to tolerate.

i took it 25mg at night, i could still feel the effects of it the next day

kept me calm throughout the day

then i started taking it in the morning

i think someone just starting thorazine should start taking it at night untill they get used to is,

then start taking it in the morning

i felt great when i was on my thorazine

but after being on it for 3 years, i learned how to control myself without it

Have you tried Abilify? It worked pretty well for my aggression and agitation. It, or some interaction between it and my other meds screwed my sleep, though.
The side effects from Thorazine you're thinking of are probably EPS (extrapyramidal side effects), which Thorazine has relatively few of, especially in low doses. What thorazine does have are anticholinergic side effects, so basically like taking a dose or two of benadryl. It also carries the risk of a few of the more major side effects, Tarditive Diskinesia for one, but the major effects don't usually show up until you get into higher doses.
Talk with your doctor no matter what sounds best.
ETA: Forgot to mention that Abilify's super expensive if you don't have insurance that'll cover it. Thorazine's dirt cheap.

thorazine is not hard to tolerate if it is prescribed correctly....

its started on 25mg which is the lowest dosage...

once your body adjust to that it can be increase to 50 then 100 and i wouldnt go anywhere above 200mg if u dont want to gain weight.....

thorazine makes me feel normal and it puts me in a good mood,,,, i could be having the worse day in the world and after a dose, about a half hour later everything feels fine......
