My P-doc put me on Trazodone for the PTSD nightmares and sleep issues. I have only been on it two days. I know there is a short adjustment time. It is working GREAT to keep me sleeping without nightmares so far!
But after I take it 50mg, I do get the bad sinus congestion side effect. It goes away after about an hour. But ugggggg. Anyone else use this and have any input on that side effect? I hope as my body gets used to it that the nasal issue will stop,,,, maybe?

I don't have much to say other than that it is a known and common side effect. It says it on the insert that came with it.

I had this pretty bad for the first few weeks I was taking trazodone to help with sleep (50mg/night, I'm on my second month of it.). I also woke up with some pretty bad headaches along with the stuffy nose.
I know that this all sounds terrible, but my first week or so on the med I slept great and felt great throughout the day. I thought that perhaps the AD effect was getting through the small dose and helping me greatly! However, that did not last long and I have retracted back into a painfully anxious and depressed state. ![]()

"Each tablet, for oral administration, contains 50 mg, 100 mg or 150 mg of Trazodone hydrochloride, USP. In addition, each tablet contains the following inactive ingredients: colloidal silicon dioxide, anhydrous lactose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose and sodium starch glycolate." TRAZAMINE (TRAZODONE HYDROCHLORIDE, CHOLINE) KIT [PHYSICIAN THERAPEUTICS LLC]
I like to try and find the inactive ingredients in meds, look them up. I am lactose sensitive, for example, and take my meds that have lactose in them with a "Lactaid" tablet to make sure I don't get side effects from the fillers. I don't know what might cause the congestion for you from the trazodone, I have congestion nightly when sleeping, some of that is natural I know » Nighttime Nasal Congestion but otherwise, I have allergies/sensitivities and other meds, etc. so figuring it out has gotten a bit more difficult for me. I'd wait a couple weeks like Odee or ask your doctor if you should be concerned, etc.

Interesting. I didn't know that. I wake up each morning with a stuffy nose. I thought it was just allergies, but it might be the Trazodone. Hmm.
