I've recently added anxiety to my symptoms in the past few weeks. Have been dealing with major depression this year. Now starting to get really anxious as well. Was prescribed Atavan, and have taken 1/2 a pill the past few nights. I think it's helped me sleep. I'd just be interested to hear how it's worked for others, even though I know we're all different. I also started on Prozac this week. Thank you!
Thanks for this!

I took Ativan, it was a low dose and it worked for anxiety.
The only down size is after you take it awhile it stops working.
The pdoc has to increase the dose.

I sometimes take it. It has a very bad effect on my memory, but works like a bomb on anxiety

The benzodiazepines all work on anxiety but have different half-lifes. I think Xanax is the shortest acting (4 hrs) and klonopin the longest acting (days). Think Ativan is in the middle. If you take benzos for a long time you can't stop them suddenly. Have to be weaned off them.

Your body builds a tolerance to lots of (or all) meds and other substances. That's why Michael Jackson was taking 40 Xanax a day and having no effect.

Ativan worked the best for my anxiety for years at differeing doses (had to increase over time), but then I built up a tolerance so I can't take it anymore.
Which sucks, because I am on klonopin in the PM at a high dose now and I had to start there (lower dose never worked), and it doesn't help my anxiety at all. But it does take away my nightmares, and I can sleep...so I just take what I can get from it and have to "deal" with being anxious.

Personally I have tried many benzos. Out of diazepam(Valium),Ativan and Klonopin, Klonopin suited me the best. Ativan was ok,helped a bit with sleep. But I guess all are different. We gotta choose our own cocktail. :-D

I take Ativan every once in a while and it seems to help reduce my anxiety.

I use Ativan occasionally, never more than 2 or 3 nights in a row--usually for a single night. No problems over the past three years I've used it.
