I haven't had much luck with ssri's before but was just thinking about how i felt on Nortriptyline. Its was short lived, but i still remember how i felt.I was on it for a few months but had to get off it due to the extreme dry mouth.

Now what i read from about Noritriptyline it works on norepinephrine and somewhat of dopamine and serotonin.

So does anyone think maybe wellbutrin/effexor xr would have the similar effects as Nortriptyline without the bad dry mouth issue? When i tried ssri's it seems to make my anxiety a lot worse.just seeing what people might think i could try next.thanks

any good psychiatrist will know what ssri would fit your needs, ie the dry mouth and how to treat it if you have that problem. there are some mouth washes out there now that help a great deal with dry mouth too.

The thing with the Nortriptyline was i only felt better for a few weeks then crapped out.I got upto 75mg but the dry mouth was really painful and would wake up multiple times a night. It was just too much to handle.I hope to see a pyschitrist in the future too.Just trying to consider my options in hopes there was something similar.

you no those long kebab sticks, you can buy them in packs, i cut them to about 2-3 inch and then you have a load of tooth pick style sticks to chew on and keep your mouth an lips moist.

Nortriptyline is an older antidepressant. Have you tried Cymbalta? If I'm not mistaken, Cymbalta also works on norepinephrine as well as serotonin and to a lesser extent, dopamine. I'm not sure to what extent the two drugs differ but if you haven't tried Cymbalta perhaps give it a go and see how you respond. The only way to know is to try.

I haven't tried Cymbalta yet but im open to pretty much any meds to try.I didn't mention on my last post but Nortriptyline seemed to stop working after a few weeks.I like how it made me feel compared to the celexa and prozac i have tried though,so figured maybe i was on the right track for finding a med that works.

Prozac and celexa were definteley doing something but i couldnt stand they way it makes me feel.Still have to talk to a psych doctor to understand what the hell exactly i was feeling.lol.It is strange but when i started on Nortriptyline i craved the feeling it gave me.Almost like a drug in that i wanted to take more than my regular dose.I guess thats a sign maybe i was just craving something that maybe me feel better for a change.

I guess thats why im feeling like norepinephrine might be what make the difference.Just strange cause from what i read it is supposed to make anxiety worse, and it did the complete oppisite.

I have other problems like hypothyroidism/hashimotos and low testerone as well which im trying to fix.Just wondering too can an anti depressant stiill work if you havent yet fixed those problems?

I also have Hashi's and am on testosterone injections. Do you have your thyroid levels checked regularly and have you been prescribed testosterone supplementation? Low thyroid as well as testosterone can each cause depression. If both hormones are in check then you can truly concentrate on finding the best antidepressant that would work for you. Prozac and Celexa are only two out of several others to try. For me, I take Lexapro.

My last tsh check was supposed to be around 1.30 so i think i was good there. The testosterone levels were 348 and the low level for my range was 345. (345-900 i think)I got that test results through a different lab and showed my doctor.Unfortunetley he didnt want to treat it until it got down to 150 :/ What levels were yours at when you got treated? I have been reading alot how it can effect mood a lot if there low.

348 is too low. How old are you (if you don't mind me asking)? For me, my endocrinologist likes levels near 800 ng for my age (I'm 50).

Perhaps it's time to get a second opinion or even a new endo because I believe 348 is too low and you shouldn't have to suffer. Do you have a high PSA?
Thanks for this!

I'm 30 right now.Yeah the GP i goto right now told me to eat more chicken in order to get my levels up :/ I didn't get a PSA test just the total testosterone levels from a lab i went too. Will that be one of the tests i need when i get it redone?I know most doctors dont like to prescribe testosterone due to the abuse from it.But i just want to feel better!

Man, you gotta see an endocrinologist. Hormones are not a GP's specialty. Get treated properly by an endo.

If you are put on testosterone your PSA should be looked at as testosterone supplementation may enlarge your prostate. That's one of the downsides of testosterone supplementation. An enlarge prostate has it's own issues so you have to weigh the good and the bad and proceed accordingly.

But first find an endocrinologist ASAP.
