Hi there,
I'm new to PsychCentral and hoping to find some info on meds. I am on 40mg prozac and have been since I was hospitalised with severe depression three years ago. I was lacking motivation and energy and not feeling so good anymore on Prozac so my psychiatrist tried me on Zyban for a 2 month period. I started a month ago and within a week I felt great! Full of energy, able to run around after my kids and was enthusiastic about things again. That tapered off about three weeks later and now I am sleep-deprived (the zyban has me sleeping with very vivid dreams and waking up in a panic) and irritable. I want to come off it and not seeing my doc until mid-July. She's keen on me finishing the course but I don't feel comfortable with it anymore. I want my sleep and know that the energy I have is false. Anyway, sorry for the ramble but wonder if any of you have tried this combination and if so, how do you taper off safely? |

i think the effect you felt was a placebo? i'm not that sure. but talk to your doc, it's better to do so.

Thanks Herethennow. It did feel like a really marked effect but will check with my doc anyway.

I also took ambien or zolpidem to help me sleep. I went off the buproprion when my life circumstances changed. I did taper off.

Hi was prescribed sleeping meds too Hankster but I don't take them much as I get too irritable and that drugged out feeling the next day. The sleep is great though!
Did you taper of the Zyban yourself or with your doc? |

Eta: you know now they recommend half the dose of zolpidem. You don't fall asleep as fast but it's better than nothing for me. |
