Hi

Has anyone tried Ketamine therapy for treatment resistant depression? I've read several studies and there seems to be great sucess in depression lifting within hours of treatment. It's still being investigated and researched, but it sounds very promising.

Just curious to see if anyone have been offered this by their P doc .. possibly as a last resort for serious depressive episode?

Let me know your thoughts..

Peace

Trigger warning

Wow, really? I'm surprised because this is the 2nd time today I came across ketamine online, so I googled it. My first reaction is, you want pcp? A horse tranquilizer? What kind of articles have you been reading? The first time I read it about it today was about it being used when a 2 yr old got bitten in the face by a dog and was getting stitched up. The side effects sound pretty brutal, it doesn't sound like anything you can take for any extended period of time. So then what? I mean it sounds like a very short term fix, doesn't it?

Hi hankster..

For depression treatment, ketamine isnot used in high dose like in recreational or anesthetic situations.
Many trials are currently in progress at various insitutions. You can check the nimh site, web md, even psych central has a few articles.
I'm generally pretty cautious on where I get my info...I'm not endorsing ketamine, but I start to get desparate aafter years of trial and error with diff meds. Some start to work and then poop out and I switch to a diff one......with basically the same results. I' ve tried no meds...thinking maybeI dont really suffer from clinical depression. Only to crash into a very dark place...andnhave to start the wholef****ing jig all over again...

So..when you ask if i would try somthing that in high doses produces halluciginics effects...but has shown amazing results in low dose in double blind studies..I say..hell f**k yes i would. Its called desparation.

I have read about it but to be honest it scares me because low dose ketamine is used to mimic schizophrenia in mouse models. I might wait until they have a few more guinea pigs before you try it. Ect is the current therapy of last resort due to the memory loss etc but its at least been tested more than ketamine.

Thanks for responding....maybe someone out there has been involved in trials of this drug and can share their story...curious to know their exp.

SP....I would go for ketamine way before ECT...I've researched both and wouldnt touch ECT w/a ten foot pole

I just saw something about this earlier. It seems they're working on a form of ketamine that doesn't have the same side effect profile as the illicit drug. It seems to work well quickly for depression, so this may be something to be hopeful about for treatment in the future.

I do hope the testing goes well one day so they can push the two drugs in for the severely depressed with untreatable depression instead of having to drill into the brain and put electrodes in there..

I was excited about K too. But I'm a drug addict and schizo so they would never give it to me. I hope they figure something out for you! D.

I'm in recovery as well...just over 9 months. But I'm hoping we have some breakthroughs in the treatment of mental health issues. I'm so sick ok the same old drug treatments that kinda work.. but give you a load of side effects.

Come on researchers and docs and all those in the field...you can do better than this!

Are we not important enough or lucrative enough for you to develop something better? Something different..not just the same drug with a diff. Name.

I think that's why I'm so intrigued by ketamine..it's not like anything else out there

Ok.. stepping off my soapbox now andback into the shadows

Love andpeace as always
