My doc prescribed me Hydroxyzine also known as Vistaril or Atarax. It is for my high anxiety level. I experience anxiety EVERY day, for most of the day. My dosage level is 1-4 25mg a day as needed. No more than 4 a day.

I took two today and I feel like I could fall over dead asleep!

Anyone else on or have been on this with about the same dosage?
Did it help or not help?
What are your side affects?

I have taken it for hives (I also have terrible anxiety, but it never touched it), and I have a friend who takes it for anxiety (I think he takes less than 1 25 mg tablet a day; it might be a 10 mg tablet...I just looked it up and they do come in 10 mg tabs. Something you might want to ask about).
Anyway, I have no side effects...my allergist did warn me it could make me sleepy, but I don't react that way to meds. The one thing I don't know is if your body could adjust to the med or not or if you might need to taper up, or just take less overall and adjust your dose (perhaps the 10 mg tabs I mentioned).
Did you spread the 2 out over 12 hours? I think I would call the dr and explain how you feel and ask about the side effects and your dosing options. And also if you can build up any tolerance or if the pills are going to keep knocking you down like that. I hope you can find a viable solution.
Thanks for this!

I'm taking 10mg tabs up to 3 a day as per needed. it's also for anxiety.

i started taking it while i was in the hospital as my lexapro gave me really bad anxiety as a side effect and it worked for me. my pdoc recommended me to take 2 at night for sleep and i can't sleep at all. however, i do know that some of the people in the same ward as me take it as a substitute sleeping pill and it works really well as a sedative..

if you are bothered by the side effects do talk to your doc

good luck, might work out after a while. Less addicting than kpin and some other benzos and less dangerous, but I went through the sleepiness like you, for a long time! Still not over this when I take it. But meds are different for all. Good luck

good ideas here! The med did help with a skin rash induced by another med, per doc. I thought so too.

oh, to add on, my mom commented my skin was looking good! (hahaa!!) and she was asking me whether it's the side effect of lexapro..

no mom, it's atarax that's helping my anxiety! (and in turn giving me lesser pimples XD)

When I took the pills yesterday, I took two at once. I guess I should have started slowly. So today I woke up and took one, and I will take one before I go to bed. They are helping my anxiety, but I also has EMDR yesterday so it might be both. But overall I do feel more relaxed and calm.
