Luvox makes me sleepy too. How long have you been on it? If its been a short time, i would wait and see if that side effect eases. If not, maybe you are on too high a dose?

If worse comes to worse, You could take it at night. Thats what i do

It doesn't have a noticeable effect on my energy level. Maybe some tiredness the first couple of weeks.

I am going to try and bring this thread back to life and add a question to it since my pdoc prescribed Luvox yesterday, even if I don't want it.
Does/has it made anyone on here nauseated? The pharmacist said the most common side effects are nausea, dizziness, and either sleepiness or can't sleep...which is funny since I am an insomniac anyway. Pdoc of course only said it might make me a little sleepy...yeah right. Most unlikely.

They all make you a little groggy they are chilling you out , if you were after bounceing round the room it would need another type of med . Its suppost to be a floaty don't give a f*** feeling , the tiredness is your brain being numbed . I don't get luvox for depression the give 20mg and for OCD up to 120mg, I got rid of OCD and depression on 20mg Prozac 30 years ago, I got the deppression back later but not OCD , but what a hell of a hike in meds for OCD I DONT GET IT

Well I have terrible OCD AND depression. I don't know my dose since I have not picked it up yet, but since I always have crappy side effects I always start low. Treating the OCD would be nice since it's not a fun feeling to have. Prozac gives me terrible side effects as has about the 15 or so other medications I have tried.

Maybe I have a different attitude to side effects after 35years . I have been living with them all that time but its better than being dead, so if it comes between side effects and depression I take the side effects . If you were made to go on food restricted drugs like some poor people do , not only even more side effects but you die if you eat the wrong food , So has weird has it may seem we have it a lot better than them , that's the way I think.

Luvox has worked wonders for my severe OCD. I'm on 150mg and that seems to be about right. It does make me sleepy, so I take it at night. Other than that, the nausea wore off after a while... depending on how long you've been taking it, maybe it will ease with time?

Yes its funny how the dose is high for OCD but it seems to work on a lot of people, doctors don't script it much for depression because of interacting with some other meds you may also have to use , But for OCD just Luvox on its own at a high dose dose seem to work for lot of people.

I am open to some side effects, but Lamictal made me suicidal; Cymbalta gave me short term memory loss; Prozac gave me the side effects like those of food poisoning; others have given me hallucinations. So, so far I have felt better OFF the meds and just majorly depressed. We'll see how the Luvox does, my pharmacy had to order it...so like you guys say, it's not very common.

Thanks...I will have to see if I get the nausea side effect and how bad it is; I already have stomach issues. Glad the Luvox has worked so well for you!

You mentioned LAMICTAL, that's a mood stabiliser med for BIPOLAR and use on epileptic seizures, weird of you doc to treat OCD . CYMBALTA is a med that don't like many patients , great if it works but miss a tablet and you nuked it has a very short half life. IF Prozac screwed you I don't see you taking 60 to 120mg of luvox if your that sensitive to meds. but good luck anyway

Lamictal is also used for depression...at least here in the states. A lot of people have good luck with it.
I have no idea what the dosing on my Lovox is. And my pdoc is desperate to find something to help so he is just pulling meds out of his *** at this point. I expect bad side effects, but I know he will titrate me slowly and I highly doubt that I will ever get up to those mgs of Luvox you mentioned without bailing due to feeling really sick. Thanks for the luck, I am sure I need it.

Luvox is the famous hit and miss med. It's under used because of that. For some people it does nothing and for some, it really, really helps.

I was in a 3 year long severe depression and 50 mg Luvox helped me out of it, later increased to 75 but it is all I need.

Since I'm on a low dosage I don't have a lot of side effects but I had some sleepiness just at the start, but it went away after a few weeks.

Other issues with the med, it interacts with benzos and caffeine. If someone is on 1 mg of say Xanax they might need to reduce to 0.5-0.75, a doctor should know this but sometimes they just forget. Also coffee... if you drink 2 cups a day, be prepared to cut down to a small cup a day, or you might be in for a nasty jitter surprise.

Sigh, thanks for the response. I don't drink coffee but I do take Klonopin so I guess I better make a call and ASK about it. Love when they do their job.

Glad it has worked so well for you, though!

I don't know if there is an interaction between Luvox and Klonopin. Klonopin is a little unusual when it comes to metabolism and doesn't break down in a similar fashion as most of the benzos. You might be totally fine.

Had a little look at it. Klonopin is rarely used here so it kind of went under my radar so I hope I didn't have you contact your treatment provider in vain.

Luvox has to do with CYP1A2, CYP2C, CYP3A4 and CYP2D6.

Following chart (at least if it is correct), has Klonopin (Clonazepam) outside this system totally, yea I knew it was strange in some way.

Benzodiazepine Pathway, Pharmacokinetics [PharmGKB]

Is Klonopin metabolized better or worse than other benzos?
