Finally went and saw a pdoc today. I felt very overwhelmed by how he was more like a business person than a doctor. He prescribed me a few medications and I was wondering if any of you have taken them or heard anything about the following meds:
Risperdal
Ativan
Rameron

i'll probably call him tomorrow if he is there and tell him my concerns because after reading the patient prescription info that I got with the meds i'm having second thoughts. Any advice from this community would be much appreciated.

I took Remeron (highest dosage was 45 mg). For me, it didn't work very well for anti depressant usage. It was sweating (definitely take it at night) and I gained weight on it.

Thank you. Yeah from what I read about all the meds he prescribed me is that they cause weight gain and i'm trying to lose weight right now so I really don't want to take them for that reason too.

I was taking Ativan for awhile, but just switched to Klonopin. Ativan is great and fast acting, but not long acting.

Hi-

What is your Diagnosis? (if you want to share)

Remeron-
I took this for depression, did not touch the depression, I did gain weight, but most of all, I was SO thirsty~I would stand at the sink and drink 32+ ounces of water at a time.. This was many times a day...even when i would go out to eat, I would ask my BF to also ask for a glass of water as I would drink mine, as well as his...this was i had two glasses going at all times. Therefore I could not sleep throughout the night as i had to use the bathroom.

Ativan-It is a quick acting benzo...probably a good drug if you are experiencing panic attacks. Clonazepam is a long acting benzo (it's half life is long, so it stays in your system) PM for info on this drug.

It depends on what your needs are. If you need something fast acting, Ativan will be better for you. If you need something that will last longer, Klonopin is the better choice.
Thanks for this!

If your really ill you will take the meds, you wont think about side effects till they happen, if they happed . You wont find a AD that wont put weight on , unless your very lucky. So if this is a major prob for you don't take any AD,S the doc carnt tell you if you will put weight on , only time will tell that story. Usually when people get there first meds they take them as soon has possible hoping for help .

I've taken Ativan. Knocked me out. Very fast acting and strong medication. But it works.

Don't knock me out now take then 2mg twice a day , but I have been on them 35 years. If a new patient 4mg they will sleep maybe 2 days . I don't have anxiety now, the 4mg a day nuke it before it starts.

no, it's one type of person that does it. Others mull it over. Some are really paranoid about any drugs, including aspirin.

Seriously, don't judge. Just because somebody is scared of meds doesn't mean they don't want to get better. Everybody is different.

And as being ill or not... this is not a pissing contest. Encouraging one to try meds is one thing. Judgement on how bad they are depending on sole factor of their enthusiasm for psychdrugs is another.

That's a very unfair statement to make.
What's wrong with making sure your meds are appropriate for you before deciding to take them? I have friends with ED's who's pdocs know to give them weight neutral meds as weight gain will be a huge mental setback. Why is it when people think for themselves instead of follow the pdoc blindly, then they are automatically accused of not being "ill enough"?

I think that's a very unsupportive and narrow minded stance to take, especially with someone just starting on the med route.

Cosmo Risperdal was very sedating for me for the first 3 months, and that was on the lowest dosage.
It did however blunt my rage response and made it go very quiet upstairs lol.
Negative side effect? I was lactating, and I hear its quite a common side effect along with weight gain.

OK im sorry, but let me explain a little more, I assumed we had got past the stage of seeing a doctor and the patient has there meds. You should have done all your talking with the doc before you agreed on the med and should be good to start the trial. BUT then you read the leaflet and see a list of side effects you may get , that's there to cover the drugs company. Now if you freak out at this you should never have excepted the meds because every leaflet says the same. THATS what the post was about they have there meds now they change there mind. I say this/ you should have had this conversation with your doc before you accept the meds if you didn't like it then walk away. All you have to do now is to take the med you excepted willingly and try to get better, is that better for you. AND has for the doc to pick a weight nutral med for you , well there isnt any so what do you say to him now. Welbutrin is about the only one that may not enduce weight in the real world an that may not suit your illness. There is no med that works but don't alter you in some way, the hole think is a trade off how big a one only your body will tell.

I talked to my pdoc on the phone with my concerns. I just want to be knowledgeable on the medications that I'm taking.

Did he answer you worries, when i was given my first med Prozac after years of refusing them , i asked the chemist all about the med , has internet was not up an running med reviews 35 years ago. SHE told me to read the leaflet but don't take it has gospel has it there to cover the company. I took the Prozac for 12 week and had some **** side effects all that time but they wernt in the danger list so i pressed on . 12 week of crap an one morning the sun came out in my head i felt great and even went on holiday ,something i don't do.

Good for you. Too many people just passively say okay to whatever they are prescribed without knowing anything about it. Like everything else in life, you should be informed about your drugs.

Even though I trust my pdoc to prescribe the right meds I still research them. I do this so I know what the possible side effects might happen to me. I think some pdocs tend to prescribe meds that they have personally seen work--IDK--every pdoc has their own ideas and have had various education about meds.
