Over at crazymeds, I read that Depakote can make one instantly old. Boy do I feel that way.

The idea of taking Depakote is that it replaces Zyprexa as a second mood stabilizer (already on Lithium).

But holy cow are the side effects bad. Lethargic, drowsy, tired, spaced out, heartburn, insomnia. The good news is that I'm in no hurry to get to a therapeutic dose, as I am already stabilized. I can take my sweet time getting there.

How long can I expect these side effects to last? I know everyone is different, but can someone give me a ballpark figure? I'm about 4 days in now, 250mg per day.

Hi Seth, I take Depakote too. I'm on a fairly high dose and it does not seem to cause too many side effects for me. Maybe the side effects will go away after some time on it. Like you said everybody is different. One thing about Depakote is that I've found it to be very effective. If your symptoms are already stabilized, why bother to increase the dose? After some time you might need to up the dose but I always try to stay on the lowest dose possible with all my meds....D.
