So I've done a bit of research on SSRIs, and I've noticed that they may cause weight changes. My question is, is there any certain ones that could possibly help with weight loss? And if not, will certain ones make me gain more weight than others? Both my psychologist and parents have suggested I go on this medication along with my cognitive behavioral therapy. I said no, I said I'd try just CBT for now and see how that goes. But now I'm starting to think that the meds may be helpful. The reason this is such a big deal is that I'm getting treated for BDD (body Dysmorphic disorder), so if it makes me gain weight it'll do more harm than good. I am trying to lose weight, so it'd be awesome if the ssri would help that. But if its not going to, it'll really only make my BDD worse and I'd rather not risk that. I figure some people on here might know something that would be useful.
Thanks to anyone that answers (:

I think it depends on your body and the way it processes the med. I have been on different meds that say that weight gain is a side effect and not experienced it. Then there are meds that I have experienced side effects on. If you are really concerned about weight gain, tell your doctor and they will monitor you more closely, or put you on a med that is a weight neutral med.

All the SSRI's I took I could attribute to helping me gain weight. I think it's slowed down now though. Before I went on SSRI's I weighed in at 165 lbs and now I'm up to 183 lbs.

If you found a antidepressant that makes you loose weight you would be a millionare over night. If you loose weight you will still have anxiety issues that are not solved. Depression is the ADs first job later you get relief from anxiety from most SSRI,S and that's when the weight comes. Wellbutrin has stated don't cause weight gain but wires you up like a Christmas tree .
