Just started on clonezepam/klonopin. It's been giving me horrible insomnia. I probably get maybe 2-3 hours of sleep a night. Has this happened to anyone else taking this medication?

I don't think it has caused that in me. I am a bit surprised because it's used for anti-anxiety.

You might look it up and see if that can be one of the side effects.

I do take a med to help me sleep, though--and I am now working my way off the Klonopin because my doc thinks it might be causing my memory problems......

I have been on Klonopin for a number of years.

I defintitely didn't get insomnia from klonopin (clonazepam) it made me drowsy. Be careful with it. It's highly addictive, and very hard to come off of, if used long term. I'd been on it for years, and it took me months to taper off it, and even with a very slow taper I just wanted to die from the side effects coming off it.

It makes me sleepy too. In fact, it was prescribed to me FOR insomnia. Maybe you just need to try something else.

Klonopin make me sleepy, too. Haven't had any episodes of it keeping me awake.

I agree with above sleeping pills did nothing for me and my gp suggested I take it for anxiety at night. People react so differently to meds. Best wishes to you. Insomnia is horrible,I hope you see your doctor agsin really soon.

I take 1mg of klonopin at night and used to take .5mg in the morning, but it makes me sleepy so I stopped taking the .5mg in the morning. I use it to slow my thoughts down at night so I can sleep. I have never heard of it causing insomnia, but each person reacts differently to the same medication. Best wishes with it.

Although everyone does react differently to meds, I doubt the klonopin is causing insomnia. As with others in this thread, my pdoc has prescribed klonopin to be taken at night for sleep (along with lunesta). I take .75 mg right before I go to sleep and another .5 if I wake up in the middle of the night and feel too wide awake.

Good luck, because I know how awful insomnia is!
