I have been dealing with the aftermath of a major depressive episode I had at this time one year ago. 4 months ago, I switched psychiatrists because my old one would not change my Paxil, which was not working well enough, to something else. The new pdoc suggested Effexor. It worked a little better but it still wasn't good enough. [for the record - I am seeing a therapist every week, but my mood has mostly ranged from "meh" to horrific...so anything she tries to suggest is not getting through to me.] Anyway, I got very depressed again in May...I actually don't remember most of that month. I added Wellbutrin in June.

Then my problems started. I live in the Washington DC area, and for those of you who don't live in the US, the climate here from June - September is hot, humid, and swampy. I have always sweated here a little more than the average person, but this year it is profoundly different. As recently as last year, I could walk 3-5 minutes to a bus etc. and it wasn't bad. This year, I do that same walk and my head and face are dripping, and I sweat through my shirt. I'll be sitting in someone's house, which is air conditioned, and I'll start sweating almost as much as the brief walk outside. I am a profoundly observant person [I notice everything] and from my frequent staring at people, I know that I am one of the few people I see struggling like this.

The pdoc suggested taking atenolol, because I told him I had taken propranolol some 10 years ago for excessive underarm sweating and it really didn't help much then. This is the 3rd day I've been on it and I would say the sweating is only about 10% better. Has anyone been on this, did it work for you? How long it it take to kick in? Is the effexor causing it (because when I started, it wasn't hot here yet) or is it the wellbutrin? Just getting tired of all the extra laundry and showering twice a day.

When I took Wellbutrin, I sweated like a ***** in church. It was so bad, I was wet all the time. So I quit taking it.
