Hi,
In your experience, did your appetite come back to normal on a lower dose of Seroquel? Or would I need to stop Seroquel altogether to get appetite back down to normal? I am eating like a horse and have put on 4 kg in 2months - I've NEVER had a weight issue

I took Seroquel, but other stuff, too, and I don't remember it caused a big weight problem with me. I suggest you talk to your psychiatrist or a pharmacist about what the research shows. Hope you'll be able to get this issue dealt with soon.

The research shows that people gain tons of weight on Seroquel. In fact there are lawsuits because people developed Type 2 diabetes from huge weight gain and increased glucose.

http://www.aboutlawsuits.com/seroquel-951/

The drug company hid the results of the clinical trials showing significant weight-gain. "The clinical studies at the time of the launch of Seroquel showed patients developed significant weight gain, significant both statistically and clinically,"

http://seroquellawsuitblog.blogspot....test-data.html

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8478924.stm

It is not uncommon to read about people gaining 40-100 pounds on Seroquel (Zyprexa too) and the weight comes off when people stop.

Apparently Seroquel can increase food cravings for sweet foods and carbohydrates. "Doctors often recommend taking Seroquel right before sleep. This allows the patient to sleep through the ravenous hunger and eating urges that can accompany Seroquel."

It works for mental illness, but destroys other aspects of the body.

I take 400mg of Seroquel at night for sleep. Its the only med with the exception of Doxepin that gets me to sleep. I have not noticed any weight gain (325lbs) since I started it. My cravings for sweets were initially high but quickly dropped off. My PDoc is talking about upping the dose of Seroquel. Seroquel is a godsend medication for me!

Even on 50mg of Seroquel I was never sated. No other psych med caused increased hunger for me.

I call it Serokill. I gained 75 pounds on it. I was in a cloud for two years. I got a DUI on it. The DUI was a blessing in disguise. I was unable to drive and I missed a doctor's appointment. I was unable to get my prescription for it. I had to start walking to get to where I needed to go. To make a long story short I now exercise and feel better than I did Serokill.

I weighed approx 120 lbs when I started this med, and have put on 10.
My night time dose has been decreased from 200mg to 100mg and I take 50mg in the mornings. It used to sedate me heavily, but not so much anymore.

I didn't gain weight on Seroquel but it did increase my appetite which was excellent! I'd take it at night and sometimes bring food to bed with me so I could eat as I fell asleep! But I'm one of those skinny people who has a hard time keeping weight on. I was also on a low dosage and taking Wellbutrin at the time which ruined my appetite during the day and I'd look forward to my Seroquel munchies and of course, I chose to eat during those times.

Just because a drug increases your appetite doesn't mean you have an excuse to gain an entire person's worth of weight. 100 lbs? Really?

I didn't, but I have always taken it at night. I don't actually eat a lot, though. I drink more. (Like 4-8 cups of water, tea or Gatorade a day + 1-2 cups of pop on occasion)

I gained 10 lb on zyprexa a few years ago and have never lost it.

I can't say that Seroquel has affected my weight, or my appetite in any way. I've been on it since last June, first on 200mg of XR, and now on 300mg of IR. I have always taken it at night though, which might have something to do with it, I'm not sure.

I have only gained about 5lbs in the entire time I've been on it, and I attribute that to being home and being inactive over the holidays, and NOT the Seroquel since when I'm at school I have to walk to/from class and meetings and whatnot...plus I take (well, took) Zumba, and now I take Pilates 3x a week.

Zyprexa on the other hand made me gain weight like mad! In about 2 months, I put on 30lbs!!

Ok, I think I am stopping this.
Can't put up with the weight gain and ow it makes me feel.
I didn't take my morning dose, and after reading your posts I may consider staying on 100mg at night. But right now I don't feel like staying on this drug.
I am on Sodium Valproate and Wellbutrin to manage my BP

Just want to add that although I gained about 50 pounds when I started on seroquel I now take 600 mg XR and I lost that weight I gained. I really had to dedicate myself to good healthy eating habits and its not always easy but its not always hard either the more healthy food you eat the less hungry you are. But I really really need seroquel and with it my life is 1000x better. So it IS possible to be healthy you just have to weigh the pros and cons.

I am on day 3 of no Seroquel and doing ok. I'm just battling to fall asleep and stay asleep in the mornings. This is the total opposite to what I've always been

I asked the doc to take me off Seroquel because of the cravings about 4 months ago. What a mistake. I fell into such a depression, one of the worst ever!

I did lose alot of weight while off it, but the suicidal feelings sent me back to the doc asking to be put back on it.

I've been back on it now for a few months and the cravings and weight gain are back. The depression is still there, and I'm fighting it everyday. I wish I never stopped taking it, but at the time I was desperate to lose the weight. Now I have to lose the weight and fight my way out of a depression. I feel like such an idiot for being so vain.

I would wake up in the middle of the night and go downstairs to get something to eat. It did taper off, though. I gained about 35/40 pounds in 7 months, but most of that was in the first 3 months or so.

I've been on a low dose 75 mg since April and haven't gained any weight on it. I just recently went up to 200 mg - about 10 days ago, and I haven't noticed any increase in appetite.

That's a rather insensitive way of expressing your opinion.

It's my experience and observation that medication-induced weight gain cannot be controlled. You can eat the same amount you always have and still gain weight on medication - increased appetite or not. And no amount of exercise or dieting will make you lose the weight. The only way to lose the weight is to stop taking the medication.
Thanks for this!
