Has anyone taken both of these 2 antipsychotics (olanzapine/Zyprexa and clozapine) for psychosis? If so, which was the best, in your opinion, out of the 2 in terms of effectiveness against voices and paranoia and delusions, and in terms of side effects such as weight gain?
Thanks for your help ![]() *Willow* |

I take olanzapine as a prn. I prefer it to clozapine for effectiveness with my psychotic symptoms and paranoia and anxiety. It makes me really hungry and caused weight gain, but when we switched it to a prn, so I had control, I got the same awesome results without the side effects. Some weeks I use it a lot, some times I don't need it at all. I take the rapid dissolve tablets up to 15mg a day.

I take Zyprexa as needed (that's what PRN means.. not sure exactly what it stands for though, sorry!) It can cause weight gain, but when I am having a psychotic episode and I take Zyprexa, it almost always calms me down. I have never taken Clozapine though, so can't compare them, but just thought I'd share my experience with Zyprexa.. oh and also, I read that Clozapine can cause weight gain too. A lot of anti-psychotics do.

![]() @RR18 or anyone else who's taken clozapine - how bad was the weight gain with that? I don't mind the thought of weekly blood tests as long as it works and I don't gain weight. Has anyone not gained weight on olanzapine/Zyprexa? *Willow* |
