Hey has anyone switched from lexapro to Wellbutrin? I did because I
Had some weight gain with the ssri's. But I don't think this Wellbutrin is working.

Hello, Newbie1976, and welcome to Psych Central! I took Lexapro, Wellbutrin, and some other antidepressant I can't remember the name of right now all at the same time. My doc took me off all of them, since he was afraid they could lead to mania.

Then another doc asked me what antidepressant I would like to go back on, and I went back on Wellbutrin. I am thinking it might not be a strong as some other ones, but I might be wrong about that.

I suggest you tell your prescriber that the Wellbutrin doesn't seem to be helping. Of course, it takes awhile for new meds to kick in.

I hope it or something else will work for you soon.

Hi Newbie! I am switching to Wellbutrin XL from Lexapro as we speak, lol so it's really even too early for me to say my opinion. But Oh.My.God. I thought I was going to die when I went through withdrawal stopping Lexapro! I just shudder thinking of having to restart that nightmare...My Dr. told me that Lexapro was his top choice for anxiety (20 mg eventually) so I'm really bummed that stopped working. I searched for an antidepressant/anxiety med that would not make u tired/low side effects so Wellbutrin sounded worth trying but had very bad reviews for using generic I found. I am actually on 1st script of a generic now & it seems hopeful enough for me to request Name Brand Only No Generic on my new script I have to mail away so I will talk to u more if u need to if I get the brand name & if I see an improvement. From what I've read on the reviews on Med Chat, lol, its just a matter of time before I crash & burn because Wellbutrin is like stopping ur anxiety meds. I didn't stay on 10mg Lexapro with it because since it stopped working I would rather go with something new if I find I need it & the withdrawal was just nasty so I just can't bring myself to swallow even a piece of the pill. If u need ur anxiety meds don't hesitate to stop this for something else. A lot of people become too wired on this & land up hating it. I'm just running out of options so I'm giving it a long chance...

If you had swapped to another ssri you wouldnt have to gone through any withdrawal, just took Lexapro 1 day then start a new one day after, called straight tapper, wellbutrin wont help with anxiety on its own may even ramp it up.

I tried Welbutrin, not for depression, but to try and stop smoking. I was on another med for depression. The welbutrin made me more depressed and I was crying all the time. My doc and I decided that was not the medication for me.

Hey Sewerrats, Yeah, thx I realize I did it the hard way LOL but I have to find an antidepressant without the side effect of no energy. I get up @4:30 & am working by 6:30 with infants under a parent accessed security camera so I have to be alert at all times & pretty much at the top of my game starting early in the morning. So I thought trying something instead of a SSRI might be the answer. I'm sure my thinking of "maybe I'm cured, now I don't need an anxiety med" won't last, I'm just trying to figure out what sounds like it might work. I feel like this site has extremely knowledgeable, intelligent, "real" people who can speak with first hand experience & I'm just trying to gather all the help & ideas I can by studying what is shared/said. I work a very stressful job to help my daughter through college so I will reach out for help as soon as I need to. Also, I'm just trying this, worst case scenario: Lexapro is advised against my will & I cave in & restart...any advice I sure would appreciate.

A lot is trial and error , we do the trials the docs make the error. Its finding whats right for your body , a lot of docs put you on a med maybe to high or to low but never give back up just let you muddle on. like my Lexapro I find I can manage on 10mg so why take the 2Omg they want me to an have no sex life. YOU do have to be out early in the morning , I take my meds at 6am but go back to bed for 2 hours and wake up then straight in my head. That would mean you taking yours at 2 a.m BIT OF A BAD CALL THAT ONE.

I went from Celexa to Wellbutrin since the Celexa sent me into a major manic episode. Wellbutrin never worked for me. It's possible.
