Ive read in various places (even on older threads on this forum) that Topamax depletes potasssium, and this causes the side effect of the tingling sensation in your hands and feet (and other places). Eating a banana or something high in potassium before taking your meds should in theory help with this. I've been eating bananas and drinking gatorade like crazy, however, and noticed an at most coincidental difference. Does anyone have any anecdotes or research to share concerning this issue that would be helpful or insightful? I can deal with the tinglies if I have to, but they are particularly aggravating in my feet. I just titrated up to 200mg yesterday. Do they go away with time anyway?

I got the tinglies at 400mg which I was at for a couple of years but now im down to 100 or 200. I neverknew it was because of low potassium. Mine were more like crawlies.
Thanks for this!

I was told eat kiwi fruit with it but not sure if it helped at all or not; I stopped taking the topamax for other reasons though. Hope the tinglies stop for you

The only definitive solution I have found or been told about for it is to decrease the dose and it goes away then. Sometimes movement and/or changing positions helps but this may just be coincidence for when it happens to subside. I have learned to live with it; for some, their bodies adjust to their dose and it becomes less noticeable. For me, it is the same level of intensity being on the same dose and has not decreased over time; I have learned to deal with it knowing not to panic and just wait for it to subside, but it does subside, it is not constant. It would be nice if there were something to help with it. Meanwhile, I wish you the best in finding something that helps; if you do, please share. Hang in there meanwhile.

I get them at no certain times, for short bursts. Kind of annoying but I don't know what to do to stop it, I eat bananas sometimes but doesn't seem to curb it. Oddly, that seems to be the only things I get out of Topomax is tingly feet.

I had them in my feet really bad. Kinda like that feeling when your leg falls asleep... Yea. Thankfully Topamax stopped working and I went to the miracle drug for me anyways, Lamictal.

I used to be on quite a high dose and the only time I got the tinglies was when I drank the night before (yes I know you're not supposed to drink on psych meds) I was never really one to listen and by the way this is my first post I'm really hoping this site helps me out a little bit and gives me some encouragement you guys seem great anyway back on subject...

U learn something new every day. I had been taking Topamax 200 mg. 2x/day for over 10-15 yrs & never had any problems w/ it. I did have a GP ask me if I was taking it to lose wt.,
which is sometimes a side effect, but I wasn't. I am currently being weaned off it because my pdoc thinks Lithium will be a better mood stabilizer for me.
Sorry to hear that so many of you have problems taking Topamax.
Thanks for this!

Sorry to hear! I hated Topamax or as they refer to it as Dopamax because people feel stupid with it. It alters tastes, isn't typically good for mood stability and can cause hair loss. For rapid cycling I love Lamictal and Latuda at high doses. Best of luck!!

I really wish latuda worked for me because I was losing weight on it .. I was superrrr happy on it .. pretty sure I was showing signs of mania and had a whole lot of side effects. So I must say im a little jealous of you

i have found that quite a few medications will make me tingly. The tinglies either go away or give me a rash. If a rash happen then the medications is stopped.

If you have just increased the dose then give it a couple of days for your body to get used to it. Also try and make sure your breathing is nice a regular. If the tinglies dont go away the check back with your doctor and ask them what they think. Maybe ease back on the energy drinks because they may tend to hype you up.

Good Luck
