I have been on Cymbalta since June last year. I was up to 120mg but started getting side affects. So the dose is now back to 60mg but my depression is at its worst. I asked my p'doc for another med. He suggested Pristiq. Does anybody have anything good to say about it, or otherwise? I am desperate.

Hi, I've been on both. I was on Cymbalta for a long time and it worked great for a couple years, but it quit working for me. I was on Pristiq but not for long enough to tell much about it. I had to go off all psych meds for a while due a conflict with a blood thinner I was taking. They weren't sure what was causing the halucinations so they just to me off everything. Wow, that was fun, not. Sorry I can't help much.

I was on Cymbalta for about a month and it wasn't working so I was changed to another med but can't remember at the moment what it was.

Thank you my friends.
![]() I have done what my p'doc said. Dropped the Cymbalta back to 30mg for 5 days. So I will start to take Pristiq 50mg tomorrow morning. Wish me luck. |

Let us know how it is going, whether it works better for you! Did you doctor indicate when you might feel a difference?

Cymbalta was so expensive I couldn't begin to afford it, but it worked well for me.
The doctor then put me on generic venlafaxine and it works well for me ... until lately. But anywho .. Pristiq is a delayed release desvenlafaxine so I think it would actually work better than a normal venlafaxine where just missing your dose by a couple hours is a ride nobody should go on. |

I have been on Pristiq for 2 and a half days now. No side affects so far. So that's good. I know that I need to wait for about three weeks until things change. Then I am also on the lowest dose so that may get increased.
Early days. No rash.... good sign ![]() While I am typing this my skin is prickly............ I will keep you posted. |

One of the side affects of Pristiq is being irritable. Today you can call me Oscar the Grouch. Changing over on meds is not nice. Things are unsettled. But on we go.

Hey possum220, for me I prefer Cymbalta way over Prestiq since it's weight neutral and approved for nerve pain as well. Cymbalta should be taken with food as I'm sure you know, food helps relieve the GI side effects. Anyway, if Pristiq doesn't work I'd, ask you doc about combining it with a low dose of Welbutrin SR. Or tying Cymbalta with Welbutrin SR. Best of luck!!

I switched from Cymbalta because of the side affects. It did help my weight to stay stable. But it was no longer keeping the depression under reasonable control. I thought Pristiq wasn't supposed to affect weight. Have I misunderstood that?
I have looked up the medication Wellbutrin in Australia and it goes under the name Zyban? (Normally used for helping people to stop smoking). Might have to look further. |

Hi Possum,
Just wondering how you're doing? I've been on Pristiq for years at 200mg (high dose, I know) with no real side effects to speak of. At times we've added things to boost its effectiveness; other times I didn't need to. I just hope it never loses effectiveness b/c you're right - the switching stinks! |

Thanks for asking.......... I am thinking about changing from pristiq. My vision is blurrier and I have pins and needles. I have also put on weight which I am not happy about.
Mind you, my eyesight issues could be due to cataracts and the weight gain could be because I am a couch potato. I dunno. I didn't have weight gain on cymbalta. |
