Has anyone taking risperdal? What have been your experiences- did it help, did you experience side effects, etc.? My pdoc has suggested it to help with auditory hallucinations/voices/restlessness/agitation and it would only be a low dose 0.5mg - 1.0mg. I also worry about if I did take it and I had to go to the doctor, hospital, or have surgery for something completely unrelated what they would think of me.

Also, from Zoloft, did anyone get light headed, tight muscles, a fainting/seizure like feeling, really tired, sleepy/zoned out and nauseous when taking it? I accidentally took 2 pills instead of 1.5 and that's how I felt. My pdoc wants me to go up to 2 pills. Should I try?

I vaguely remember being on Risperdal for bipolar. I think I am right. I have been on so many things over the years.....At any rate, I don't remember any particular problems with it.

I know I haven't been on Zoloft, so I can't speak about that.

It took me 2mg of risperidone/risperdal to stop the voices and agitation but you could be different. The only side effects that I got was being so tired all the time but that shouldn't really happen on your dose it is different for everyone though.

I was on 0.5mg of Risperdal & it had already started to work wonders. It was getting rid of my paranoia, hallucinations, helped me get to a baseline mood with my Bipolar... It was working pretty great. Then it was starting to reduce in effectiveness so at my next pdoc appointment I asked her if we could raise the dose... Well, I had overlooked my random lactation throughout that time because I could deal with that as long as my psychosis was in check!! Turns out, it's a dangerous side effect for someone like me who already has hormonal problems & I had to go off it. It was my first med & I could handle it, so my first experience through the "med cocktail turnstile" really was a bummer.

I'm on it, at 4 mg a day, as an adjunct to my anti-D., and I find it really helps my mood. But it did mess up my hormones - lactation being an unpleasant side effect, and it pretty much stopped my periods. But I like it and find it effective so I'm willing to put up with the side effects.

I was on 6mg about 6 months ago and I didn't realize the side effects until a little while ago. I gained around 50 lbs (from that and one other med) and it completely erased my sex drive (is that the right way to say that lol) it really messed things up needless to day. But maybe it will be helpful for you ... Wishing you luck because I know I sure haven't had any with those darn meds!
