So I've been taking Gabapentin (Neurontin) for about 2 to 3 months but in the past couple of weeks, I have been making weird mistakes at work. The kind of mistakes I never make. They seem like carelessness, writing the wrong number on a deposit slip, counting the drawer wrong, I may have even given someone $45 more than their change was supposed to be (although it was never determined how the drawer ended up being $45 over or who was responsible.). I feel terrible. Like I can't do anything right. And now I'm not getting enough hours at work and I don't want to have to look for a new job, but I am looking just in case. I'm afraid of getting fired and I just don't feel right.

When I first went on the medication I felt great. It definitely helped stabilize my moods and gave me some self-confidence. I don't know for sure that it is the reason for what's going on, but every other medication I am on has been prescribed to me for over a year.

I have found some info online about Gabapentin causing mental fogginess and memory issues but none from a first hand account. Has anyone else found themselves in a similar position?

Oh and the other meds I am on are Seroquel, Celexa, and Buspar.

Hi-

I was prescribed Neurontin 400 mg., up to 3 x per day for a non psych issue about 15 yrs ago. I felt "high" on it, would "speed" me up, and then I would crash, & have to sleep. I was unable to take it while working with those side effects, plus it did not do what it was intended to do for me. I have also had it prescibed for pain, which it does not help with either (for me). Although it does loosen me up/make me less inhibited..What dose do you take and how many times per day? I also noticed that the generic is not as strong as the original...

Maybe I should try it as a psych med, I actually like some of side effects. I am unemployed now.

I took it for headaches at low and very high doses. It helped my mood (coincidentally) just for a short time and helped headaches just for a short time and I needed to keep increasing it (above 2000 mg) until it had no effect on me whatsoever. It gave me no side effects.

It is not approved for treatment of mental illness I think. When it was first made it was marketed as a wonder drug for BP and neurological problems. Over a decade ago it was debunked as treatment for BP and other mood disorders.

I was prescribed to take 300mg 3 times per day. I am weaning myself off for now until I can see my doc again.

Lamictal has done that to me. Made me a lot less depressed and gave me energy to go back to school. But it also made me stupid. I went from being a star performer to being mediocre. Anti-epileptics can cause cognitive impairments like you've described, some less than others. Lamictal is actually well-known for not causing such cognitive impairments. I'm the one-off, as usual.

I'm also on Seroquel.

Sorry to hear, my guess would be Seroquel and Buspar since I felt that way on those! Best of luck!!
