I think I had use to have insomnia when I was younger, it took me three to four hours to fall sleep every night. It was horrible I could never go to sleep quickly.

I was on Adderall, Ritalin, Zoloft, & something else I cant think of.For my anixtey, & ADHD.

Though after I got off I got depressed, & it progressed to get worse.Plus I use to insomnia, but my insomnia is under control now.

Psych meds can potentially cause depression in some people. It could also be a result of stopping the meds too quickly. You need to taper off most antiderpressants to avoid the harsh withdrawals. Some anti anxiety medd can do the same if you stop abruptly. Do you see a doctor?

Yes psyc meds can cause an array of problems, from fatigue to mania, even hallucinations. The doctors wont tell you all of the risks, you need to do the research yourself.

Sure. I still have problems from been on Zoloft because it caused me to be depressed. A stimulant can of course cause insomnia. So can antidepressants. Effexor totally ruined my sleep, it took me about three years after coming off it to get deep sleep back, but at least it was finally reversible.

If you have access to one, I would consider a psychopharmacologist/ psychiatrist. Since they specialize in these specific types of meds they tend to be up on current research and know more than any other MD. GPs do know a little but only the basics. When you start getting into med combos I think a specialist is a good idea.

Once you body gets used to the meds ,I think it changes it for ever in some form or another, so taking that amount of meds at a to young age would lead to some problem .I have never slept more than 4 hours a night for has long has I remember. My solution I never took meds I stay up till 2 AM , my wife has the same sleep pattern and she is not mentally ill , weird really., she must have read thousands of books at night.

I've never had psych meds cause another mental health problem but I have had psych meds that helped me uncover another mental health problem. For instance, I was put on anafranil for OCD/anxiety and that helped. With my OCD out of the way, I realized that it was not the sole contributor to my lack of focus and so I was then evaluated for ADHD.

Meds at a young age can certainly impact your mental health later in life. There is very little well done research on long term effects, we are still learning. Pdocs like to sweep it under the rug. It is highly dangerous to give developing minds medications.

Psychotropic or psychotherapeutic medications can cause several psychiatric problems, especially, the first generation APs, and Lithium. For a complete list check http://www.fda.gov/
