What's your experience with sleep meds and OTC supplements?

I have so far stuck to over the counter stuff. Tylenol PM/Benedryl helps but it started having too many side affects.

Melatonin works quite well and doesn't leave me groggy (unless I take a high dose)

When I cant sleep bc of anxiety I take Atarax to help me sleep.

My favorite method is hypnosis. (This track is awesome. De-Stress Hypnosis Session from Hypnosis/Hypnotherapy/Coaching/Self Help by Joseph Clough - Bestselling Author on podbay: open podcasting)

I've tried Tylenol PM, in the past. Leaves me groggy and feeling hung over.

Ambien, is in the hypnotic class of meds. No effects, in the morning.

I work with someone who used to use melatonin, before she ever received a script, states hands down the rx is more effective for her and she won't go back to it. I think she mentioned groggy. Not sure which sleep aid she uses, nor she mine.

As far as OTCs, my exh used zzzQuil, last I knew, when we were on talking terms. Said, non groggy effect.

Nothing OTC works for me, trazodone does not work, it takes about 2mg of xanax or ambien to put me asleep. Currently I have pretty good luck with seroquel too, but it doesn't always work. I take any where from 200mg to 400mg of seroquel. Usually it works but not always.

none of the over-the-counter meds worked, and ambien put me to sleep but never kept me asleep, nor did it stop racing thoughts. only thing that works for me is 1/2 25mg. seroquel for the best, deep sleep w/vivid dreams. have a hangover for about 30 min. in a.m. but for me, it's worth it.

Occasionally I will take OTC sleeping pill but I really try to use an herbal pill and tea. Maybe aromatherapy first. It usually works. There are studies that show sleep habit changes are as effective as pills. The difference is habits are harder and take longer but they are permanent and not addictive.

Anyone try Sonata or Rozerem? They work pretty good, but Rozerem caused my dreams to be too real and I almost couldn't tell if they were dreams or reality!

Melatonin puts me to sleep, but then I usually wake up somewhat earlier than desired as it wears off, between 4 to 6 AM. I recently tried 50 mg of Trazodone because the doctor prescribed it for me, and quit taking it a couple days later as it gave me high blood pressure and palpitations in my feet. Not good, although it did make me sleep in to 7 to 8 AM for the first time in years.

I haven't had any luck with over the counter stuff. I take Ambien. Was taking Seroquel but it was knocking me out for like 14 hours. I would got to sleep as soon as I got home and slept until I had to get up for work.

I take lunesta, and along with the rest of my nighttime meds (klonopin and saphris), it seems to work pretty well.

Melatonin didn't make me sleep. Atarax didn't make me sleep either. My ADs that were supposed to make me sleep didn't do it's trick as well. I'm trying out diazepam now and it works, at times.

Anybody like Rozerem? My dreams seemed to real since it works directly on the melatonin receptors. I like Sonota to fall asleep and Desyrel to stay asleep!

I take melatonin every night. Benedryl keeps me awake and Ambien works but I had black outs. I have a script for Trazedone, an AD used mostly as a sleep aid now. It works well and in lower doses no grogginess. I've taken Sonata but I was groggy from it.

Melatonin always. Sometimes Trazedone or Klonopin (never together though I've been told its ok). I took Ambien and it scared me to death- I would lose blocks of time while on that.
