I was taking 150mg of lamotrigine and 40mg of celexa. I decided I'm tres of taking meds all the time, and I'm convinced some of my problems are side effects of the meds. I cut down the lamotrigine to 100mg, did that for a week or two, then tonight I cut it down to 75mg. They are 100mg tabs, so I cut in in 4 pieces and took 3/4 of a tab. For the celexa, it's a 40mg tab so I did the same, cutting it in 4 and taking 3/4 so I'm down to 30mg. I'll probably do that a week and lower them both again, to 50mg of lamotrigine and 20mg of celexa.
Has anyone else even on these meds and tapered off? How did it go? How do you control your moods without meds? I have anxiety and depression, it's been going fairly well, hoping I can cope without meds. My dr said he didn't recommend going off then during this time of the year but that it's up to me. I guess youre supposed to go slower than that. I went cold turkey from 10, reinstated at 5 for a week then 2.5 mg for a week and then 2.5 mg every other day for a week. Its been hell.

If your anxiety and depression are going fairly well, maybe it's not the time to alter your meds.

Yes, I took myself off celexa. I was also taking Lamictal and still am. Celexa took about 3 months. I don't recommend doing them at the same time. In fact Lamictal has a nasty reputation for withdrawal. I can personally attest to that when I was forced cold turkey for a week. Beyondmeds.com has several articles specific to Lamictal withdrawal that I would recommend looking at.

Thanks for the replies. Bah, I just read up on lamotrigine withdrawal and I'm just so frustrated, I want off these damn drugs. I'll probably do it slower than I had planned but it just sucks.

I hear you. The only thing is you'll want to have systems in place for managing dysregulation or you could end up right back on them.. That takes time too so maybe think of those too? You might also look at dr breggins work too.
