I've read on two separate posts in another thread and I didn't want to high-jack the thread. But in one post someone said that lamictal decreased the effectiveness of birth control pills and in another someone said birth control pills decrease the effectiveness of lamictal.

I'm confused. I've started on lamictal and I take birth control pills too. What exactly is the interaction with them? Is my lamictal going to be less effective and I would need a higher dose? Or should I worry about my birth control pills not working?

Thanks!

Birth control makes lamotrigine less effective. I haven't read or heard anywhere that lamotrigine makes birth control less effective - if it did, I would absolutely refuse to take lamotrigine because birth control is much more necessary to me!

Lamotrigine (Lamictal)

It's an epilepsy site, but it might ease your anxiety some. I had the same freak out when I was first reading about it.

Then again - I just read this!

While looking for help for you. Hmmm.

I think it's best if we both ask our doctors!

Thanks for this!

Yes thank you. I will definitely ask my doctor. There is just so much confusing information out there at times. Not that I don't want kids, but now is not a good time.

Yeah, I hear you. From all I've read, it's like 98% that says that birth control makes lamotrigine less effective.

It's only that one article I stumbled on really that has said that lamotrigine makes birth control less effective.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
