Is there any other meds for anxiety that isn't an antidepressant, benzo or my god.. Anti psychotic?

I've heard of hydroxidazine or what ever.

So far clonazepam has worked best. I was able to withdraw from 1mg in one day no problem and prozac nearly gave me sudden death from severe ventricular fibrillations.

There's propranolol which is actually a blood pressure med but can be used for anxiety I've heard. Never been on it. I'm on clonazepam & abilify....

Hydroxidazine, is an anti-histamine...I had it prescribed for anxiety a while back and it certainly didn't help since anti-histamines make me feel weird, irritable and anxious. It does have sedating effects for some people...but the main use of anti-histimines is allergies so certainly take that into account.

Its worth a try though, it seems a lot of people react fine to anti-histamines.

Well hell, why not just buy straight valarian root and make tea?....that works way better than any valarian root pill or other form that may have other ingredients mixed in. I made a brew of that and yeah it doesn't taste great but it is pretty damn relaxing. Gotta do it right though...you can't just put the root in the cup and pour hot water over it you have to simmer it.

Also some Valerian supplements in pill forms, don't have active Valerian, they just put the ground up root in when the valarian oils have to be extracted.

Still good to talk with a doctor though, especially if you are on other meds as it could have bad interactions with them potentially.

to get most of your valerian root, you should macerate it, hot water destroys some of the alcoloids.

Side effect warning: If you have cats in the household, and they realize you have valerian, they will turn into sneaky ninjas, open your cupboard if they can, chew through your valerian root bag, eat it, roll around like crazy, potentionally hump few things or get in fights (if there's more cats in the household) and dose off.

If you lock your valerian, your cat will still know where it is and when you open that place they will land ninja style in proximity and try to get your valerian.

True story, bro

Cats do love Valerian, that is for damn sure if I leave it out the cats are all over it but now i keep it in places they can't open so one of my cats in specific will just come and sniff out its location then meow at me till I give him some I sometimes wonder if it helps his 'anxiety' as he seems to have a bit of cat anxiety...not sure what macerateing is, is that like putting the valerian in a jar of room temp water and letting it soak for a few days or week or something to that effect? I know you do that with some herbs. Either way I find the simmering method makes it quite strong enough.

Ok so this is my 5th night in a row being drunk because I'm afraid my heart will stop from beating too fast. Good news is that I've ran out of booze.

I can't wait to get a good anxiety medication I will be able to feel like like my normal self again.

Good luck with finding something that works....also though aside from the herbal remedy valarian, there is Kava I've found it in tea form and it is relaxing. Also passionflower, but that's kinda weak like chamomile.

Foods high in vitamin B are supposed to help, along with herbal remedies like st Johns Wort, ginseng and green tea.

Things like mediation and breathing techniques are meant to help too. I find controlling my breathing reduces the pain in my chest, when my anxiety is bad.

There are also some books that might help to read? I got bought 'overcoming anxiety for dummies' I'll be honest, I haven't read it as it made me feel anxious looking through it lol (that is the truth)

Good luck to you with it all

Not for me...but apparently it works on quite a few people or it wouldn't be used for anxiety.

Antihistamines are a no-no for me. I actually do tolerate vistaril but it does nothing on lower dosages and on higher it makes me tired and increases my startle reflex a lot. I get really jumpy.

The rest of the antihistamines have been really brutal. They gave me a kiddie dosage of one and it plain knocked me out! For a full day and a night. Others have had similar effect but not that extremely sedating but then instead they have caused tension and anxiety. Another caused such weakness I just had to lie down, my legs wouldn't carry me. Yet I was wide awake and anxious.

I so wish there was a benzo like med that had no downsides. That felt like benzo but could not be addictive. Man, that would be great. Benzos relax me, antihistamines just drug my body and I'm too sensitive to most of them.

Propranolol sounds like a good med but I hear it takes a few weeks to work or something I mean im not looking for something that will just stop panic attacks and not anxiety and the stress related to it. It's also a norepinephrine action blocker so that would be counterproductive to the concerta (that's not what is causing it because I had the same amount before I was prescribed concerta).

I like all of the herbal suggestions later I'm going to go to the pharmacy and ask a pharmacist about this as well (dunno if I said that before don't remember).

I'll ask for flurazepam too (roofies). I know it sounds ridiculous but taking one before I got to bed will last a really long time throughout the day maybe even later. Then I won't have to take for a few days after to not build tolerance. At least it's less anxiety. But I'm sure there's no way I would be prescribed that.

So I bought valerian root. It was plastic pills with the root powder inside them. But someone here said that it's not the active ingredient and it has to be in the valerian oil form?.

The pills are extremely easy to open so I guess you're supposed to put it in tea. I put it in a bit of cold water (because someone suggested that hot water causes it to be ineffective) and drank it. It didn't taste bad. Although I would rather not drink it.

I don't know why they would just put ground up root that doesn't have the active ingredient in it. Are they trying to trick people?.. Overall it had no effect. I read online about someone ordering a pound of valerian root and he would take 25000-50000mg (25-50g) a day and said it worked a bit.

Here's things I will try next and I need to be fast I had to go to the ER this week due to severe panic attack and the area where my heart is is starting to hurt;

Meds (obviously will have to get a new pdoc mine's a douche);
Propranolol
Hydroxyzine
Buspirone

Supplements;
L-Theanine - increases dopamine and glutamate.
5-HTP - Acts as/Increases serotonin. Promotes sleep, mood and suppresses appetite.
L-Phenibut - GABA. Once per week recommended. May not be available in Canada.
Picamilon - GABA and niacin.
Kava kava - GABA.

Anything else would be helpful.

Worst comes to worse ill just have to huff some petrol ^^

You can swallow the whole capsule containing the valerian root powder. Nah, it's not a trick..valerian root really does help people sleep. You do usually have to take it for at least 3 nights in a row so it's a blood level.

Melatonin seems to help me with sleep. I dunno about anxiety, I only take it at night.
Hydroxyzine knocked me out cold for a week then did absolutely nothing for me. I still have a bottle and can take two and it might as well be a sugar pill. Same happens with the OTC antihistamines they just quit working. I don't see them as good for anxiety because they usually just put people to sleep.
