I ran out of Wellbutrin XL yesterday and dropped off the paper prescription for it this afternoon after work. Pdoc on uses paper, so I read and know wht it said. This evening i go back to pick it up and the price is 75% less than what I've been paying recently and still less than when I started a few years ago. I mention that to the pharmacist and the response was that it must just be since it's December my insurance paid more. I tried to explain my insurance doesn't work that way. I asked if it was the right version, long acting instead of an older one, and she said yes. She told me to go ahead and pay the lesser amount.
I got home and it is indeed Wellbutrin SR 150mg not XL. SR dosing us typically half your daily dose twice a day, sometimes there's exceptions. It's a taller peak and only last half as long as the other. If I wasn't out of Wellbutrin XL and have a horrible headache and have to work I would worry as much. Pdoc's office VM list phone numbers for non life threatening, but its a couple weeks old so it list his partner instead of him. Non-life threatening emergency is an oxymoron statement, but I don't even know if this should be considered one. Should I call pdocs after hours number or call the pharmacy and try to find a time when a different pharmacist is working? |

I'd go back to the pharmacy and ask some questions. That does seem odd.

I'm going to head over with the old bottle to show them and hope there's a different pharmacist working. If not should I try a different location or call pdocs after hours number?

Well I took the old bottle and new one. There was a different tech and same pharmacist. At first the tech couldn't figure out what I was talking about then after explaining it again he had the pharmacist pull up the scanned copy of the original. The pharmacist apologized for the mistake & that they didn't believe me last night.

Wonderful! Sad to say, they do make mistakes. Glad she owned up to it.

Wow! It makes you wonder how they ever get ANYTHING right! XL vs SR is a big difference! "Are you smarter than a first grader?"!

I told the pharmacist if I took the 12 hour version 2x a day I would have been getting twice as much and even taking your daily dose as SR instead of XL it's all being dumped in my system at once and works over a shorter period of time. She also tried to tell me the research is wrong and they both work exactly the same...

Good thing you were able to speak up for yourself.

Speaking up was a smart thing to do! I'm rather shocked that a pharmacy would make such a mistake.
