I am new here but really having a hard time. I posted my story in the introductions and bilolar sections but I am really scared and have never seriously considered ending my life until now. I took 10mg lexapro for 8 days and became full blown manic. I didnt sleep for almost a week, tremor, muscle spasms, no concentration, tachycardia, hypertention, etc. My life has been a living hell ever since. I started drinking really heavily because I couldn't deal with the insomnia. I joined the military a year ago trying to get my life on track and I was so tired of hurting my famiily. I was up for 3 days straight during my training and borderline psychotic so my roommate forced me to go to behavioral health. The psychiatriat told me I was probably bipolar and I was devastated. I have been hospitalized three times over the past two months and been on a dozen medications. My biggest fear is that the lexapro has cauaed permanent damage. Please tell me the brain can heal. Im doing a lot better on lithium and seroquel but my concentration is totally shot. I just walk around in a fog all day. I know I should be careful what I watch online but I found a guy on you tube last night from new zealand who took lexapro one time and is permanently disabled.
I really need some encouragement and I am so gratefull I found this site. I have tried to be strong for years but I just cant do this anymore. |

the Lexapro has not harmed you it just shown up your bipolar , so it simply was the wrong med . You are getting the right ones now and your dream like drug feelings are your meds helping you . They will sort themselves out in time , and don't read things on the internet that scare you . People get screwed with any med or any thing , you can read millions of those stories if you want to scare yourself to death .

No the Lexapro did not damage your brain. It may have triggered a manic episode as antidepressants can sometimes do if you are bi polar.
For a guy from New Zealand to say that one dose of Lexapro gave him permanent brain damage is just plain ludicrous....crazy talk. No way. The brain does have remarkable healing powers. With the right meds and the right treatment and the right this and that, the brain does heal. Sometimes not enough however. I believe my brain has healed in many ways but I have had depression my whole life and been treated for twenty years and it just keeps getting worse as I get older. I have a chronic long term illness that I have to manage and live with. Although my current mix of drugs seems to be bringing me out of one. Or it could be that I am naturally cycling out of it which is what always happens. Seems much more like it is the meds though.

None of us can do this on our own at least not and get better. We all need a lot of support and the right meds and the right therapy and the right people in our support network.
