Has anybody experienced allergic reactions to antidepressants? I have never had an allergic reaction to medicine that I remember. I was told by my parents that I had an allergic reaction (rash) when I took penicillin as a child but since then the only allergic reaction I have had was from acne medicine, it this case my face was swollen, itchy, and red.
I think I am having a slight allergy to Bupropion. I have taken it for 2 days now and today I have been itching all over and my face is red/itchy. I am not swollen or having any other symptoms. I'm just not sure if I should take it anymore. I don't have another dose until tomorrow but I highly doubt my pdoc will get back to me in time to tell me if I should take it or not. __________________ Dx: MDD, GAD, Panic Disorder Rx: None, too many side effects. |

If you can't get in touch with your P-Doc, call the pharmacy who filled the script and ask them what you should do.
If you can't reach them, then call your local hospital's emergency room number and ask them. If this medication is a sulfa based medication, allergic reactions can be deadly. Please don't delay! |

Do you have nay Benedryl? Take it as soon as you can and the itching should subside. I used the cream and pills.

I will take some Benedryl. WebMD does list itching as a "less severe" side effect, additionally they list red face and neck as a "less severe" side effect.
Although it also says "get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), painful sores in the mouth/around the eyes, severe dizziness, trouble breathing." __________________ Dx: MDD, GAD, Panic Disorder Rx: None, too many side effects. |

I would worry the most about swelling or having trouble breathing. You could also use cortisone cream topical on the rash. That stuff works great. My daughter used to be very allergic to any kind of bug bite, swell up like crazy and I always used cortisone on it. The benydryl should work though. So is it a side effect or an allergic reaction? how are you going to know? You sure are having a tough time with trying these new meds. Maybe say screw the genetic test and go back to another SSRI. It was an SSRI that worked for you before and now you have tried an SSNRI and an atypical. __________________ The "paradox" is only a conflict between reality and your feeling of what reality "ought to be." -- Richard Feynman Major Depressive Disorder Anxiety Disorder with some paranoid delusions thrown in for fun. Yeah zinco. At this point I feel like the genetic test is BS. I agree a serotonin drug is what I should try because that is what has worked well in the past. Although I am thinking of trying a different method... 5-HTP. I have read good reviews and think it might be best to try an alternate route since the AD meds have not been working out well for me.
No way I'm going back to Celexa, the fatigue is unbearable. And the rest I can't seem to stay on so far. If the 5-HTP doesn't work then maybe another supplement and if that fails then maybe give an SSRI another shot, perhaps Zoloft. __________________ Dx: MDD, GAD, Panic Disorder Rx: None, too many side effects. |

Also check out.... SamE L methyl folate L trytophan Fish oil Vitamin D Thats what a pdoc sent me out the door with for a shopping list. He used regular meds but didn't have much faith in them and preferred not to. He is also one of the first to buy the machine for doing TMS treatment. Trans Cranial Magnetic Stimulation. I did it for six weeks and it didn't do anything. In fact I went into a very deep deep depression right after. I don't blame the TMS for that it was just my cycle. I kind of gave up on the supplements cuz I was so depressed and I didn't really have any faith in them. I went back to regular meds. So I didn't really give the supplements a fair shot. __________________ The "paradox" is only a conflict between reality and your feeling of what reality "ought to be." -- Richard Feynman Major Depressive Disorder Anxiety Disorder with some paranoid delusions thrown in for fun.
