Does it help you?
Does it have side effects? What med is the best and has less side effects? |

I'm on lamictal, and so far it's kept me from getting manic but hasn't helped my current severe depression at all. I don't believe I experience any side effects from it. I can't really tell you which mood stabilizer is the best. At least for bipolar, I know that lamictal, lithium and one other that I can't remember are supposedly in the top tier.

I think that the best med is when you don't have side effects and when it helps you. What dose do you take of Lamictal? |

And another question- when Lamictal starts to help you? After a week or after a mounth? Or at the time you take it?

I've been on lamictal 150 for years and have had no side effects. My husband and son are both also take lamictal 150 or 200 mg. It seems to be the first med try here. I noticed a difference in my son when he got to 50 mg but nothing until at least 100 for my husband. I had no side effects and only take 1x a day. Currently my husband and I take it in the morning. My son takes it at night.
Its half life is 14 hours so about 14 hours after you take the 100mg you only have 50 mg in your system. You have to worry about the sjs rash that can be deadly when you first start and when upping your dose but all meds can cause that. Depakote is one that they use often I had no problems but it was 2x a day . I eventually stopped taking it (to the dismay of my pdoc) __________________ Dx: Me- SzA Husband- Bipolar 1 Daughter- mood disorder+ Comfortable broken and happy "So I don't know why I'm tongue tied At the wrong time when I need this."- P!nk My blog |

I once had a diagnosis on bi polar and was on tegretol for 7 years. I didn't have any side effects but I don't think it did anything. I was misdiagnosed for complicated reasons and I don't blame my pdoc for it.
I started taking Lamical 3 months ago for MDD, it is an augmenter to an AD in my case. Within the first week I started noticing a big improvement in my mood. My mood got better and better but didn't really help with my other depression symptoms. So after a month we switched my Effexor to Fetzima and Lamictal and Fetzima are the best meds I have ever taken. Have worked the best. No side effects with the Lamictal. I like it and think of it as very clean for some reason. I can't really say why but that is what my intuition says. __________________ The "paradox" is only a conflict between reality and your feeling of what reality "ought to be." -- Richard Feynman Major Depressive Disorder Anxiety Disorder with some paranoid delusions thrown in for fun. Thank you all for your replies.
As I understand mood stabilazers esspecially Lamictal is great drugs and I hope it will help me too. I don't know yet what meds will be prescribed for me but my ex psychiatrist told me he thinks I should take mood stabilazers and he will talk to his workmate who will be be my new psychiatrist about me, so I hope it will be okay and I hope that this med would help me. Just another question- How many days, weeks or mounths I should wait to see it helps me? What about your experience? |

Great, I can see my new pdoc only after two weeks.
I think I'll be pdoc for myself because my ex pdoc told me that I should try mood stabilazers and I can get them without prescription ha I know it's maybe wrong but I'm tired of my ex pdoc's games. He needs third person to prescribe me something like Lamictal, okay I will see new pdoc after two weeks and she could change my therapy if she wanted. |

I liked Lamictal for my mood, but I did have side effects. I had major cognitive effects relating to memory and word recall. The word recall was the worst part because I really felt dumb at times. I think all AD's and AP's do that to some extent, but this was worse and became very frustrating (I couldn't remmebr the word "refridgerator" once, for example). It was bad enough where it affected my performance at work as well. My pdoc felt it was not worth it and took me off of it.
