Hi All--

I was hoping to try to get pregnant so I went off my Abilify along with some other drugs that are not recommended during pregnancy. Unfortunately, I crashed hard and now I'm back on the Abilify. The good news is that I feel much better than I did before (I was probably 2 steps away from being hospitalized.) The bad news is that now I can't try for pregnancy at this time, and also I'm feeling a kind of weird side effect.

So, my question for all of you is--do any of you feel "amped up" or "wired" on Abilify? (I'm on 5 mg.) I take it for depression but I also have generalized anxiety disorder and I think this wired feeling is contributing to my anxiety. My shrink has told me that it might go away on its own with time.

Thanks for reading!

I had to stop abilify due to akasthesia. my skin was just crawling. it was terrible.

I am sure there are some drugs that are safe to get pregnant on. have you talked to your doctor about switching over to them?

How long did you take to taper off and how long before you crashed?

kaliope: Akathisia, yes, that's exactly how I would describe it. My shrink and I have been trying to transfer me over to more pregnancy-safe drugs, but unfortunately I seem to only be responding to the ones that aren't safe during pregnancy. :-( I haven't given up yet, though! Just putting pregnancy on the back burner for now. I was getting suicidal, and as my husband likes to point out, I can't have a baby if I'm not alive.

Michanne: It was a months-long process of tapering off the Abilify as well as a bunch of other drugs. I think my shrink was extra cautious. Unfortunately, I gradually saw a decline and after a while it was clear it wasn't going so well. One week I sort of crashed majorly and that's when we started putting me back on the drugs.

LaborIntensive: Wow, that video is interesting. I never realized Abilify was such a powerful drug. It's kind of crazy how it's become so standard now.

Thanks for your responses!
