My story is rather long, but I will try and shorten it. Twelve years ago my 18 year old daughter had a bad second cancer diagnosis. I was a mess. Losing weight despite eating and could not sleep at all. I knew I had to do something to get myself together to take care of her. I was in no shape to make a very rational decision so I went to a psychiatrist and he started me on Klonopin. It took 5mg to get me to sleep and calm down. It worked very well for what I needed it to do. I functioned well. I tapered down to 4 milligrams during one of her remissions. My daughter passed away after a four year cancer battle at the age of 22. I was also on the verge of a divorce. I went back to work and was functioning well. My problems started when I read the benzo boards and decided I needed to get off the "poison". Here I am 7 years later, on a very small nightly does of Klonopin. My life is a wreck. I have not slept more than two hours a night in 7 years. I have no quality of life because I am so tired. I rarely see my family anymore. I'm sorry I ever tapered down on the Klonopin. At one point I was off completely and doing terrible. Can I go back to the dose I was on and doing well?. I can't live my life like this any longer. It is utter hell. Thanks for any input you can give me.

Hi, benzowoman. Welcome to Psych Central! I am sorry to hear about your daughter and your marriage. I have been on Klonopin for years, but have tapered down.

I can't imagine there would be any problem with going back up, but I would certainly talk to your prescriber and even a pharmacist.

By the way, I take a nightly dose of Trazodone to help me sleep.
Thanks for this!

Klonopin has been a life saver for me. If you helps you, go back on it.
I mean why suffer when there's a med to help you?

I am so, so sorry for your tragic loss.

I have been on k-pin for about 20 years. I really empathize with your med situation. There are a number of threads here on the Medication board about Klonopin. Here's a link to an especially "interesting" thread: http://forums.psychcentral.com/psych...ing-pills.html
