I never saw a psychiatrist until December of last year. My GP had me on Paxil since 1999. I had a rough time with a certain young lady over the holidays. And I quit two jobs. During that my psy has changed me from Paxil to Prozac to Pristiq. Every time I go see him it's $120. I just paid $191 for 30 days of Pristiq. This is just emptying my savings. I feel like the Paxil was performing just as well as the other two meds, even though he said it wasn't working after a ten minute interview. I have an appointment to see him in a week. I'm seriously thinking about just calling him, having him tell me the tapering procedure from Pristiq back to Paxil, cancelling the appointment, and bidding him a fond farewell! Thoughts?

Hey, undeadMage, and welcome to Psych Central! I have found that some psychiatrists are more willing to work with their patients than others are. I am thinking you might tell him what you told us and see what happens.
Then you'll see if you have one you can work with--and make your decision from there. ![]() |

It is so dismissive when a doctor has their own agenda and won't hear what the patient has to say about their own treatment. Yes, if possible I would ask him to taper you off pristiq while you look for a new psychiatrist. There are many good ones out there, but it does take some investigative work to find them.
