Looks as though is Xanax is no longer be available in Australia.

Apparently the only way to obtain a script for Xanax is for your doctor to fill out the following form:

FORM 1

APPLICATION FOR AUTHORITY TO PRESCRIBE A DRUG OF ADDICTION.
(1)
to prescribe for or supply to a drug dependent person any drug of addiction (Schedule 8), or
(2)
to prescribe for or supply to any person any preparation of dexamphetamine, methylphenidate
or lisdexamfetamine*, or
(3)
to prescribe for or supply to any person other than a drug dependent person, for therapeutic use by that person
continuously for more than two months, any of the following drugs of addiction.

So in other words you have to be considered a Drug Addict to receive a script! What a joke !!!!!

Is this happening in all countries or is it just Australia?

Xanax was the only anti anxiety drug that helped me providing that it wasnt misused. Now my doctor has put me on Serepax instead.

Is Serepax as effective for the relief of panic and anxiety disorder ?

#3 says 'to prescribe for or supply to any person other than a drug dependent person for thereputic use by that person' seems to imply it can still be prescribed for theraputic reasons aside from addiction issues like anxiety but also can be prescribed for addiction/withdrawls reasons...at least that is what it seems to be implying

Does it go on to say people other than drug dependant people cannot be prescribed it? if not that's probably not the case, but you've only posted some of what the form says so hard to say for sure. If you really can't get it, would it be the same with other benzo medications...xanax is certainly not the only one of those.

Crap it would seem that benzo's are more and more on the way out in the psychiatric community. just when I am doing so good on a low dose of klonopin.

This med is the first choice in my country because it is weak. It comes with drowsiness and has lesser anti anxiety effects than most benzos. Because of that it is hard to abuse. You'd fall asleep if you tried to get high on it.

It is a good med for mild anxiety disorders especially if you need to wind down and sleep. For severe anxiety and panic? Um.... probably too weak. But maybe if you have the right chemistry for it it might help. But for most it's not very effective.
