Hoping you can give me some help. I've had depression/anxiety since my teens, I'm now 55. Meds never helped me well until about 8 years ago my doc put me on Cymbalta. It's the only med that ever really helped me. About a year ago I felt it becoming ineffective. In January my doc tried to taper me off it, but the withdrawal was so bad I couldn't do it. Now she wants me to try again, and I want to get off it. I'm down to 60 mgs from 120, but suffering a lot. I'm trying to do it slowly, but the withdrawal is still hell. Can you offer me any hope or suggestions. Thanks. Kathy

Hey, kathyms3150, and welcome to Psych Central! All I can think of is to taper down even more slowly.

Tapering any psych drug is hell....when things get bad just go back up to a higher dose and stay on it until you are comfortable going off it again....most of my reductions were spaced at 6 weeks apart but for the first one I had reduced from 10 to 5 mg and had to go back up to 7.5mg and I stayed there for a year and was afraid to keep going but my doctor convinced me it was a good idea and now I'm off entirely about a year after that conversation.
