At first all was well because it did a number on the intense suicidal thoughts. But then...

-I'm not hungry at night, but I have to eat so I can take my lithium.
-Even with food it makes my stomach and throat hurt.
-It's made me vomit on several occasions.
-It messed with my birth control giving me a TWO MONTH PERIOD. (It was my gyn, not my pdoc who figured out the culprit was the lithium)
I don't even have bipolar. I have MDD.

I would stop it, but when I do...bad things happen in my mind. And I'm in the process of switching pdocs, so I'm currently stuck in a holding pattern.

I've been on: Prozac, Abilify, Zoloft, Effexor, and Lamictal
Any suggestions of meds that won't make me sleepy? (I already have narcolepsy)

Lithium is inching it's way up close to Effexor withdraws in terms of bad medication experiences.

Lithium is well-known for its side effects and difficulty to tolerate, although it was used frequently before the SSRIs came to market. My mother took it years ago and did very well with it. Perhaps a dose alteration would be helpful for you??

The side effects of all the psych meds led me to seek alternatives such as support groups, counseling, meditation, etc. My experience is that life on meds was no better and sometimes worse than life off meds. Not saying that is right for you ... just that it is what works for me.
Thanks for this!

Intense hatred for Lithium actually sparked me to flush all my meds in 2011.

Not saying you should do that, even though it worked for me. Iits just that I know first hand how much hatred one can harbor for this med.

I don't have any solution, just wanted to empathize.

I hope the professionals find a better alternative for you soon.

I don't know. But I'll most likely ask my new pdoc to check when I finally get to see her in a few weeks.

Hey sorry to hear! I'm on Lithium and know it all depends on my blood level! Also, for AD's that work and are weight neutral, and not sedating, are Aplenzin, Brintellix and Fetzima. For an AAP Latuda is weight neutral as well and works wonders for mood stability and bipolar depression! Best of luck!
Thanks for this!
