Hi,

My doctors want me to try a stronger anti-depressant but I am very fearful of the side effects. I am afraid they will now give up on me.
Should I just try new meds? I have been getting more depressed.

thanks

I'm not sure what you mean by "stronger" could you be more specific.

All meds have side effects and for the most part they vary by type not necessarily life or death stuff. Most MI meds have side effects that may impair your thinking in one area while improving it another and "impair" is usually mild if you notice anything at all.

I am on 12 meds, 10 of which have the side effects of impairing judgement, cognitive skills, memory, and many more. I do not find the side effects too bad, except for hair loss.

I'm one that fears side-effects, too; but weeping, crying, getting more depressed, and less attached to the world was getting to be too much. So, I've opted for another course of medication. I'm two weeks into it with no major side-effects. Give new medication a shot in my opinion.

If you trust your pdoc, I would try what he recommends if you are getting worse.

I'm not sure what "stronger" med he is wanting you to take, but I generally go with my pdoc's advice. (He is the dr ) I get my husband to read the side effects. That way I'm not freaked out. He can watch for side effects.

Side effects suck, but spiraling downward sucks more. I've been in a similar state of indecision, but there's no way around the fact that if I don't keep trying, and yeah--accepting the side-effects--the problem will not go away. It only gets worse.

They won't give up on you falling_tears. But you need to not give up on yourself to make it work.
