So I've just changed my meds...

Anyone (who has not been diagnosed with anxiety!) took effexor xr and got really bad anxiety on it? I am trembling most of the time, my teeth are clenching most of the time and it's to the point it's super sore now and I can't eat anything without feeling pain. I just feel at edge most of the time.

My exams are around the corner and because of this med change I can't concentrate on studying AT ALL. I also feel lethargic but when I am on the bed I can't sleep at all; I just toss and turn on the bed.

With what little experience I had with antidepressants I knew this isn't good so I'm meeting my pdoc next week.

Just wanna hear thoughts of anyone who faced this with Effexor XR. The last time I had this kind of medication-induced anxiety is on Luvox... but this is by far worse than Luvox.

(I feel like crying because of this med T_T)

Sorry to hear, yes Effexor was like that for me, and another bad thing with Effexor is, it can cause weight gain. You might like Nefazodone or you can try benzodiazepines or Neurontin for your anxiety. Best of luck and hang in there!

I take Nefazodone and Klonopin for my anxiety and it does help me a lot.
I tried many different ADs for anxiety, Klonopin works the best for me.

I don't have an anxiety Dx but have been on Effexor for some years because of my clinical depression. It has helped me without any obvious side-effects.

If you decide that Effexor is not helping you then you could discuss the option of Mirtazapine (marketed as Remeron among other names) with your psychiatrist.

The pharmacology of Remeron is similar but not identical to that of Effexor so it might meet your needs without the side-effects that you are experiencing with Effexor.

Note: we all react so differently to medicines.

However, I have Acute Anxiety and Effexor XR has helped it, but again, we all have different chemical compositions, hence, why there are so many different medicines.

Eh, I changed over from mirtazapine actually. SSRIs and mirtazapine all didn't do the trick, so pdoc switched me to effexor. but this is by far the worst side effects i've ever experienced.

thanks for all the replies guys! i will meet my pdoc soon.... need to hang in there T_T

Remeron poops out the fastest out of any other AD I believe, and all the SSRIs eventually do as well. The SNRIs don't poop out as often or at all, but Effexor is by far the worst SNRIs and I'd even say probably the worst ADs. I swear by Cymbalta...Fetzima is the next one I'd try since they're both weight neutral and Pristiq is basically the same as Effexor.

ah, mirtazapine didn't poop out for me. instead it didn't work at all (though it was a nice med that didn't give me side effects, although im horribly prone to side effects)

never tried an SNRI before, this is my first. and this makes me scared about others...

I take effexor. My biggest issue is that it kept me up at night. I saw my sleep doc and he told me to take the dose in the AM. I've been doing that and it's fine for me.

I also would swear by Cymbalta but our insurance stopped covering it and made it grossly overpriced. With most AD's I think you just have to find the one that fits you and your symptoms.

SNRIs typically work better and have fewer side effects, except for Effexor. Fetzima is supposed to be a great one.
