Hello everyone spokety here. I'm a diagnosed schizoaffective. I've been taking anti-psychotics for over a year now. It has wiped away my psychosis and manic episodes, but it also has wiped out any feelings or pleasures that I have previously experienced. Theres no ups and downs I just have one mood that never changes, numbness. I've tried many different anti-psychotics, and with the exception of zyprexa, they have not helped me with this numbness. I was numb on zyprexa, but it wasn't as bad as this. I tried to go back on zyprexa but the second time I tried it, it didn't work, I still felt the same as I did on all the other meds. For me, being completely emotionally flat is a torturous experience. I wish that I could leave this earth and go to heaven, because it's not worth this suffering. Living in this state is worse then anything, worse then death. I talk to some people, and they say that their numbness varies, but thats not the case for me. My numbness is 24/7 at the same level. I don't know how else to explain how horrible feeling like this is. I'm suffering and my life is unbearable. I don't know if anyone else has experienced this type of torture from anti-psychotics before. Let me know if you have.

Lithium did that to me. It's not an anti-psychotic, but I quit taking it because I felt like a lifeless zombie. I feel for you.

I'm sorry that I can't comment on those particular drugs.
I'm taking Cymbalta for depression(was) and it made me numb. I was in a therapy session and she asked me how something made me feel, answer was I didn't feel anything about anything. Seemed a little counter productive. My brother was on Cymbalta for a long time and he said that's what it did, but he said it like it was a good thing. Not me. I'm very new to treating my depression, so I'll be talking to a pdoc about options in a week and a half. |

I used to be on Cymbalta....and other SSRIs in the past. Cymbalta had the least side effects for me while I was on it. (Getting off it has been a complete nightmare). But I was emotionally pretty flat. It took pretty extreme events to evoke a response in me at all. Of course, now I think I am hyper-emotional all the time. Everyone else seems to think I'm normal. It's weird to be completely free of psychiatric meds (other than a very low dose of 5-HTP to facilitate my recovery off cymbalta), as I have been medicated for my entire adult life. Honestly a little bit terrifying at times.

@Dx1347 I have also been medicated my entire adult life and am now off meds and feel exactly the same way you do. I feel like I have too many emotions but when I was on Celexa I have to admit I was dulled down quite a bit, Same on Cymbalta. I realize now I didn't cry much in my 20s. I am 32 now and I agree it's scary at times to have all these emotions. I feel like I can be set off by nearly anything.

Prozac did that to me, so I simply switched meds.

My perphenazine does that. It is for auditory hallucinations.. I'd rather be sort of numb rather than have those.
