Ok, if any of you have read any of my posts you probably know I have a high sensitivity to medicine and as of late have started to get allergic reactions to most meds. Well, I really need to do something because my depression is bad. I only have a few antidepressants I haven't tried and I really have no choice but to try them. Its either that or ECT and ECT is my very last resort due to side effects and the fact that it's not a long term solution.

Anyway the only medicines I have left to try are Luvox, Effexor, and Trazodone.

I am somebody who gets extremely sleepy on SSRIs so my doctor said Trazodone would not be a good option for that reason. If I have to try it I will but for now I am keen on Luvox.

Now to the point LOL, what have you all experienced as far as Luvox and it's efficacy for Depression? Also how did it impact anxiety? I am more concerned with depression but don't want to increase my anxiety if I can help it.

I don't want to know the side effects, please that would increase my anxiety before taking the drug. Just what to know how well it worked for you.

Thanks!

Hi, ChangingMyMind. I have not taken Luvox. But it purports to be useful for depression, and nothing is said about it causing anxiety.

I take Trazodone to help me sleep, so I agree that it would not be a drug for you.

Maybe someone will be along soon who has taken Luvox.
Thanks for this!

Thanks I hope so, I talk to my pdoc next week so I'd like to know if it's a possible option. 😊

Hey zinco, I haven't tried the new antidepressants like Fetzima or Brintelex. My pdoc decided because of my side effect issues she didn't want to try me on the new less documented ADs. Also she didn't like Fetzima for me because it's supposed to just be a stronger version of Cymbalta and I did fine on Cymbalta it's just the side effects issue. Ultimately she thinks I need something weaker with a lower side effect profile since efficacy is not an issue.

Unfortunately, the last time I took Cymbalta (about a month ago) I started itching and had hives after one dose. This has been my reaction on Wellbutrin, Zoloft, Prozac, Cymbalta, and Xanax. Never had an allergy in my life before so it's weird but my body just doesn't like anything that helps right now. 😔

It's almost like the depression has affected my immune response but pdoc has never seen this so I don't know if it's the depression or what.

Very bizarre. Never heard of that either but people can develop allergies. Maybe see an expert allergist?

Yeah it's really weird. Already saw an allergist. According to their test I was allergic to saline lol which is not possible so they think my skin is extra sensitive.. saw a dermatologist as well no luck their either.

Exactly! That is why they think my skin is just extra sensitive and the hives I got from the saline test were likely just a sensitive skin reaction instead of a histamine reaction. Which is also not normal for me.

My body is just breaking down on me lol

I found Luvox (fluvoxamine) to be like a slightly weaker version of Prozac.

Hmm might do the trick if that's the case. Thanks!
