So this is my first post here. I could use some help. I am on 200mg Provigil, 10mg Buspar 3x a day along with Geodon and Effexor. I'm feeling great for the most part, but I'm having odd sleep patterns. I'm finding that I sleep very little or literally none one day and feel great the next day. Then the following night I crash hard, and sleep 10-12 hours, but the next day I can barely get my eyes open in the morning and all day long I feel like I got hit by a truck. Anyone know why this would be happening?

I don't think Buspar plays a game in this. It's a pretty weak 5HT1a partial agonist. It really shouldn't pack a punch with your issue. Provigil is a stimulating med. It's usually used in the morning or when you wake up. Unless it is scripted specifically for narcolepsy during the day. Effexor being an SNRI is also stimulating as a norepinephrine reup inhibitor. Thats a morning med. Geodon can be a mixed bag. If you have bipolar. It can make you go into a manic state. Especially when used with an antidepressant. It depends on what you are being treated for and the doses of each med. That you use daily. Geodon is both a mild reuptake inhibitor and potent antagonist of NE. It can make people more or less anxious when starting it. Then do the exact opposite at a higher dose. Geodon can be tricky at figuring out the "sweet spot"- 40mg can be really stimulating for some and 60mg might have a more stabilizing effect. Titrating up slowly is important if you have bipolar. So you gave the daily doses of the Provigil and Buspar. Which are pretty common amounts but not for the Geodon or Effexor. Also, you didn't mention when you take the meds?
MHO, I think you need to ring your pdoc and talk to him about your side effects and figure out if a med change or adjustment is required.
Also, you may already know this. Take Geodon with food, it helps prevent nausea and GI problems.

hi mermoz
discuss it with your dr. it may be the drugs. it may just be your sleep cycle. am I right in thinking Provigil is a stimulant drug? that would certainly keep you up....are you taking it early in the morning so it doesn't keep you up at night? I know Geodon at least initially can knock you out immediately so it should be taken before bed. I don't know what Effexor is known for, I just know when I took it, it made me very tired. I was yawning all the time. it was the major reason I got off it. I just couldn't function on it. but that could have just been me. im sensitive to meds. so knowing how they affect you, play around with the times you take them to encourage sleep when you need it after consulting with your doc.welcome to psych central. you will find we have several forums where you can post about your concerns and receive feedback from other members. you will get a lot of support here. again, welcome

I take 200 Provigil as soon as I get up along with 10 mg buspar, 75 mg Effexor xr and 60mg Geodon. At noon I take 10mg of buspar and at night I take another 10mg buspar and 60mg Geodon. I have been on Geodon for about 12 years and it has never made me tired, quite the opposite actually. With the Effexor I noticed no difference when I started it. The sleep disturbances only started when I started the buspar about a month after being on the Provigil with no issues prior. I guess I just have to live with only sleeping every other night lol

The SSRI's and SSNRI's have always messed up my sleep. Not at all in the way you describe though. Why do you take the provigil?
