I was diagnosed with Avoidant Personality Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, Social Anxiety and Severe Anxiety (to the point I have trouble leaving my home).

I have tried Effexor (was miserable), Zoloft (but not for a long time), Bupropion, Topamax, Venlafaxine, Buspirone and Prozac over the last few years. None of them have really relieved my anxiety. My doctor will not prescribe anything like Xanax or more powerful anxiety medications and I cannot afford a psychiatrist. I have a therapist. What else can help me? What other medications?

Had to say since we're all different but Celexa helped my depression and anxiety quite a bit! Also helped my agoraphobia a great deal, which pretty much kept me in the house. I had trouble going to the store before Celexa. While on Celexa, I was able to not only get out around town but I took a trip to India (I live in the US). This was big for me because I am anxious about being far from home and traveling by plane.

My doctor said that celexa may not work for me (i was on it four years ago and after a while it stopped working, about a year later) she suggested I go to a psychiatrist to get a more serious anxiety medication but my insurance does not cover mental health care like this, so i am not sure what to do anymore. Should I try the more serious drugs if I can find a way to afford a psychiatrist or stick to the general ssri pills?
