Switched from ambient to restoril to .5 clonazepam for sleep. Why would it give me a sinus headache. But also makes me feel anxious in my chest/ heart region?
I am so sleep deprived. I think its PTSD related, but on also worried about an impending breakdown. I've never had psychosis breakdown before, but have taken care of others and see the signs in me. I've had transient psychosis a few times, but that kind doesn't worry me anymore. This is different I can't get in with q psychiatrist. My internist was reluctant to RX the clonazepam, so what now? I've already asked him for 3 diff. meds and he doesn't know me so I'm afraid he won't believe me about this. I can't take it any more. What can I do? |

I just checked on clonazepan and it can affect your sinuses from being runny to being blocked along with headaches.
Why is the internist just using benzodiazepines to treat you? Chest pains aren't a good sign. Maybe an antidepressant at night that has a sedating action would be more beneficial? |

I use Remeron for sleep. Much safer than a benzo or ambien in my mind. There is also Trazadone which I don't like as well. An internist may not want to prescribe those though.

One major reason I wanted to try klonopin was because the script costs me only $2 per month. The sinus side effects seem to be a deal breaker though. |

I say safer than benzos because of the horrible withdrawals some people have when stopping them. Not the addictive qualities. I can't say much because I take klonopin for anxiety and it works wonderfully. I am a recovering addict too. I take it as prescribed or less. I am taking my chances with the withdrawal thing though.

Dark therapy, Ashwagandha, l-theanine, and time release melatonin have helped me with sleep a great deal.
Dark therapy is basically going to bed at 2000-2100 with no lights on and staying in bed with no lights (even if that means lying awake the entire night in the dark) until morning, then getting some light. Another approach is to elimitate all light sources which emit blue light. I bought an amber night light for my bathroom, a red-orange light to read by from 1900-2100, and some blue-blocking glasses if it becomes absolutely neccessary to do something where there is blue light. Avoid electronic devices and media like a plague. I find meditation helps calm my mind. It also helps remove toxins that build up in the brain, which can mitigate some of the stress lack of sleep places on the brain. When I have especially difficult nights going to sleep - which has been often for the past several months - I tell myself, even if all I do is meditate the entire night I'll still be better off, on a physiological level, than otherwise. Avoiding caffeine, eating a high fiber dinner with ample protein, getting some exercise (I can at least walk for an hour while sleep deprived), can all help as well. I have found that the cumulative effect of doing many small things to promote sleep provide me better sleep than I ever had when using a sleep aid or a psychotropic known to promote sleep, such as an AD.
